Okay, I joined Facebook

#1 Post by christie1111 » Wed Feb 11, 2009 11:20 am

Now what do I do?

I found someone from high school I remember and asked him to be my friend.

YAY!!!!!! Welcome to the crack den...you will SO become addicted!

Start adding friends...you can search by schools, you can search by people you email - see the "friend finder" link for the options (you just have to have your profile set up to include your schools, then it will list then when you click there). Then when you start to accumulate friends, you'll start to get recommendations based on who they're friends with.

You can start with any of us, and then look through our lists for people you know. Feel free to add me!! :)

And then you start signing up for wonderous things, like quizzes and gardens and puppies! Oh, it's so much fun. Then you have to wean yourself off it, at least a little bit, so you don't lose your job! :)

Facebook is out - LinkedIn is in. :P

I was on LinkedIn before I had even heard of Facebook.

I never check LinkedIn. I go to Facebook regularly (from home because it's blocked at work).

No way...i was on LinkedIn WAY before Facebook...LinkedIn is SO 2008! Facebook is so much better because you get to bore all your friends by constantly updating your status with things like "Valerie is eating oatmeal" and take quizzes like "what drink are you" or "what beverly hills 90210 character are you"...come on man, there's no comparison here! :)

Your avatar made me LOL, a1mamacat.

Not on Facebook yet. I'm on Myspace. So what's the hierarchy of coolness for these sites?

I added you! Once you accept, you can search my friends for people you know, or I'll go through and suggest friends for you if you want, to make it easier.

As soon as people over 25 start signing up and thinking it's cool, it's no longer cool.

So Myspace is 10 minutes ago, Facebook is 5 minutes ago and it's now all about the Twitter.

I'm older than 25. Just a skosh, of course, but that's enough to bar me from de-cooling Twitter.

Twitter is for people who actually think people care to know what they're doing from minute to minute. There's a reason its users are called twits.

That's what I've always felt about Myspace, which is why I never signed up. Facebook feels like a place for all ages...well, anyway, 75% of my high school class is on there, so if I'm wrong, they're all wrong too! :)

I'm surprised 75% of your high school class is there. That doesn't bode well for the pay sites.

I started a Facebook group for my high school class and not half of those who showed up for the 40-year reunion joined. Of course we're in different generations and my high school was very different from most.

We're actually having a belated 15th reunion this year (should have been last year), because we all reunited on Facebook. Before that, no one took any initiative to find anyone or do anything. It will be our first reunion.

I got a message recommending to add (Christie1111) as a friend.

A large number of my H.S. class is there but I come from relatively small, closely-knit H.S.

So did I but I turned her down. She claimed to have a different name. Obviously an MM.
