WooHoo! Top 10!
I admit, I've had some real softballs so far this month.
To be followed the rest of the month, no doubt, by some impossible curveballs, knuckleballs, etc. etc.

I've been wrong the last two days in a row. Maybe even three days, I've lost track.
Just flat out had no idea this morning. My stoopidity alignment is not going well.

Re: Sploofus scores for February
I answered today's in 7.00 seconds for 1285 points. Since I've previously received 1333 for 6.00 seconds and 1400 for 5.00 seconds, I think the formula for the score is must be 1000+2000/t, where t is the time in seconds. Maybe everybody already knew that, but I haven't seen it posted.
I remember seeing some references to 2000 as a possible maximum score. If this formula is right, then 2000 is just the score for getting the answer in 2 seconds, which very well may not be attainable. The theoretical maximum score for a single question, if Sploofus measures in .01 second increments, is 201,000.
It's great to be up near the top, but even if I keep it up, I'm going to drop like a stone at the end of the month, since I'll be on a cruise. If I have an internet connection at all, it will probably be deathly slow.

Re: Sploofus scores for February
Good observations. I suspect that any answer in less than 2 seconds may be capped at a maximum score of 2000 points. I doubt that they would allow 100,000+ points for a single question. If the suggested algorithm is correct, then the minimum score for a correct answer would be about 1066 points, since you have a maximum of 30 seconds to submit a response.andrewjackson wrote:Somebody scored 2,000 on February 1.plasticene wrote:I answered today's in 7.00 seconds for 1285 points. I think your estimate of a minimum is about right. I got 1034 not long ago.TheConfessor wrote:Good observations. Re: Sploofus scores for February
I was having an OK month until yesterday, when I answered a completely inane question correctly, hit Submit, and then watched the clock tick down to zero. The screen then flipped to an error message. Rats!

I just checked, and the lowest score that is not zero is 1065, so this formula looks right.TheConfessor wrote:Good observations. Somebody who is completely out of it, volunteer for us to click the first answer, or the last one, or whatever is fastest for you without reading the question. I want to see a 2000 point answer, and it must be that fast.
I am sorry I am somehow not out of it yet, even with 2 wrong answers, or I would do it.

That happened to me two or three days ago, but luckily it was a question I missed anyway. You can get the error message back by clicking on your e-mail link from that day. If you write something in the feedback box, they might give you credit for your answer.hermillion wrote:I was having an OK month until yesterday, when I answered a completely inane question correctly, hit Submit, and then watched the clock tick down to zero. SHEESH!
I can't even do this right.
Today I got an absolute zero question, worded simply & immediately saw 273 in the 1st answer. I had no lag in loading or after I answered, so needless to say, mud-turtle informed me that the answer should have been Celsius, not Fahrenheit. I now stand a pathetic 6-5 for the month.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Re: Sploofus scores for February
I'm not sure that even this would work. I can't seem to get under 3 seconds even on a boom boom boom question (example: Babe Ruth, Boston, Submit). Now I might have not gotten 2k, but it definitely didn't take me more than a one banana to think boom boom boom. Even without a noticeable lag, I don't think the max would be possible on some or most connections.eyégor wrote:Ritterskoop wrote:Somebody who is completely out of it, volunteer for us to click the first answer, or the last one, or whatever is fastest for you without reading the question. I'm completely out of it - I'll be willing to try. Don't laugh!
I'm thrilled to be fourth in this bunch.
Sploofus has not been stoopid to me this month. So far. I know that the softballs must end sooner or later. I'm still hoping for later . . .

I'm not just thrilled to be in first place, I'm astonished.
And, not to toot my own horn, I have been in first place overall for much of the past two days.
Clearly, trivia geeks favor February vacations.
