What consensus contrary to Pea's? There isn't one. Majority opinion supports her position, not yours.

As far as I can tell, consensus is for you to quit moderating posts unless you get permission first.
Excuse me?

On this thread alone, I counted 5 in support of/uncaring of what Bob did.

Vs 5 who did care.

Where do you get "majority opinion supports her (Pea's) position"?

Not to mention declaring that "a consensus" has been reached?

All...this...dissension and fighting is making me weak...

It's like Captain Pollution has invaded this Bored or worse: Al Gore.

Now either make a poll, stop fighting or get me that cute European chick who has my wind ring because she is fine and she'll make me feel better.

My opinion is that no moderator (save Dave, as it is his house, after all) should exercise any censorship or adjusting of legitimate posters posts. Spam links and Bot attacks should, of course, be removed as soon as possible.

Edit to correct the context. Sheesh!!!

I don't have no spidey sense! I got bitchin' powers and glowing skin that I get from using Caress Evenly Gorgeous For Blue Skinned Men. My powers are so great that I used Heart to mind control you into making a poll.

Did you really mean to say that any moderator except Dave should censor or adjust any legitimate poster's posts?

Jeemie, sweetie, you really need to read things more completely.

I do not say (nor did I say - and I am not saying you said I said) that the posters in this thread equal a consensus - Bob said that, sprots objected to that conclusion and suggested that the opposite was true.

I looked at who posted in this thread and judged them in 3 ways - for what bob##s did, against what he did and present (meaning they posted and voiced no obvious opinion). Here is what I got:

21 posted
9 present
7 against
5 for

I am not saying this means anything - it is too small of a sample to conclude anything about majority blah blah blah.

I am not concluding anything - just pointing out facts so far.

I know I sometimes skim and miss stuff, but I think I can handle two sentences pretty well, and get the meaning of them.

Unless you have different definitions for "majority" and "consensus" than I do.

Bob's mistaken, but so is Sprots.

As far as I can tell, there's no consensus on the Bored whatsoever on this issue (although my gut feeling tells me few people really care- and early polling tells me that gut feeling is wrong. Oh well...).

a1mamacat wrote:One thing I would know.

Of the listed moderators, how many have actually utilized the mod powers to edit others posts, and how often. It would appear that only a select group seem to feel the need to edit.

Please note I do not refer to the deletion of obvious spam.

I have used the edit function on other people's posts for the following reasons:

1. To sticky and unsticky threads. I would assume there is no argument or gripe here about this, even though it still requires the edit function to perform....

2. To spoilerize game answers when the answerer either forgets or messes up an html tag. Pea said this is no big deal, but she has never run a game before on this Bored that I know of, and the one time I had a game answer deliberately spoiled (way back in the prehistoric days when teebee haunted the Bored), I was quite hot about it. I think there is an unwritten Bored code that certain things on this Bored should be put in spoilers (or, as in the past before we had the option, contained in a spoiler warning or containing spoiler space in the post). And of course this is the crux of the issue that has brought this up in the first place. If you believe adding a spoiler to something is censorship, then I'll never be able to rationalize the practice that Bob ( or I for game posts) have done, so there isn't much point wasting any typing on it....

3. To fix broken quote tags, which lead to sometimes indecipherable posts, and lead to even more indecipherable stuff if the broken code gets repeated in ensuing replies....

4. To fix links to images people have posted. As I explained last night, on one occasion, I saw the problem in why Appa's pictures he was trying to post were not posting, and without wasting the time to ask, I went ahead and fixed the link for him since people come and go from the Bored throughout the day, and waiting for confirmation on an obvious case like that is silly and pointless...

5. There are occasions where I have accidentally edited another post because the quote button is right next to the edit button, and sometimes, clicking on one brings up the other's screen. I am not the only moderator who has had this happen to them, and when I realize the error when the post comes up, I re-edit the post to restore what was originally there....

And that's it....

And not one of those instances involves changing or deleting peoples' text, so I really don't understand the big whoop.

I'll take expediency and clarity over asking people to fix a quote tag next time they happen to drop by.

Plus, it might be wrong, but I think that Administrators should be able to perform functions beyond just 'clean up' because, if you can't trust them, then what are you doing on this board in the first place?
