Idol Chatter
I was happy to see Bikini Girl go home. I was not happy to see Drama Queen Guy stay. I was surprised that the Osmond fella did not pass and was a bit sorry that the blonde rocker girl didn't get through. But, it seems that the guys have a big lead over the girls this year. It may be the way the show was edited but that's what I took away from it. I still would have liked the show to have been expanded a little more so that we could get more of a taste of the contestants. Seems like a lot of drama in the house this year. But, probably no more so that previous seasons, though.

I think the dirtbag looking guy with the bluish hair is the most talented singer, but I sense his inner flakiness will cause him to stumble.

But yes, he has inner wack to be worried about.

I have only seen 1.5 eps of AI so far this year. I got tired of trying to tape a program or flip back and forth between two or more and ended up seeing none of any of them, so AI ended up being odd man out.
I didn't realize it was Hollywood Week already, which I generally like. Have they done Chairs yet?

Re: Idol Chatter
I like the really tall 16-year-old girl. Taylor, I think her name is. Very composed and mature.
I love Anoop from UNC. He has a great voice and is probably very smart as opposed to just wanting people to think he is smart, like our current Idol Mr. Malaprop. His style might not be my type of music though. I think he's secure enough to survive the competition without any drama, and he has a future if the music thing doesn't pan out. I don't feel any of the desperation and "I want this so bad! This is my only chance!" that I hate in contestants.
I've heard less than 5 seconds of Jesse Langseth and I think she'll be my favorite once I get to really hear her since she sings instead of shouts like Adam and Lil do. She needs the Glam Squad to fix her up a bit, but not too much. And since she's Jonny Lang's sister, there's a great deal of talent in her DNA.
I don't get Tatiana or Von. At all.

It's the last episode from Hollywood Week. They are all in chairs in the room downstairs and go up the elevator one by one, where they sit in The Chair in front of the Unholy Three (four now, I guess), get reamed and then either get sent through to the top 24 or sent home.Second Chance wrote:I'm trying to figure out why I don't remember what "the Chair" is. The last two of each gender get sent up together and they of course pair them up (became friends, fan fave v. outcast, etc.) for maximum dramatic effect.
I guess I am really out of the loop this year. I have no idea who Tatiana even is.

They are not sorting by gender this year, into the top 12, anyway. Maybe the 36 will be 18 and 18, but after that, the votes are not sorted boy-girl.

Re: Idol Chatter
1) Tatiana is a nincompoop. I want to push a grapefruit in her face like Jimmy Cagney in that movie. She would make Misterrogers want to belt her one right in the kisser. After pissing everyone off within earshot of that annoying laugh, she gets through (they forget the words and still get through..so much for "forget the lyrics and you're out"). Then she thanks everyone from God to "the guy who holds the sound stick thing". I think we can likely conclude that the Top 36 are pretty much already picked, judging from the results of group night.
2) There is an abundance of drama queens this year so far. Only a couple of them are women. Judging by what is out there on YouTube, Adam is REALLY toning it down for the show. He has a powerhouse voice, but he has too much threat of developing Constantine-itis for me to jump on his bandwagon. I am withholding judgement at this point.
3) I like the guy whose wife died but I want to like him for his voice, not his sad story. The producers best stop milking that.
4) Von Smith couldn't be more over-the-top if he wore a Carmen Miranda headdress and had a bullhorn surgically implanted in his throat. He makes Ethel Merman sound like Ben Stein. Drives me crazy.
5) I'm not sorry to see the Osmond guy go. It's one thing if your father had one hit 40 years ago and has vanished off the face of the entertainment world (Sundance, Season 6)..it's another if your whole freakin' family is in the business and still have enough connections to at least get you heard by industry bigwigs. I'm sorry, if Uncle Donny can't get you a job, maybe you're just not flippin' good enough.
6) I liked Lil Rounds in her first audition. I did NOT like her at all on her first song in Hollywood. Part of it was probably the fact that I hate the WHitney version of "I Will Always Love You" with every bit of my heart, but I also heard too much melisma and not enough staying on key. She will have to win me back.
7) I have mixed emotions concerning that comedian who has inexplicably made it through so far. He has shown that he has a terrific voice, but has also shown that he is more interested in goofing on the whole process than in actually making a serious run at the top. I don't think that there's anyone more surprised that he's still alive on the show than he is. I also think he has a better shot at being a singer than he does as a comedian. Apparently he just wants to get his 15 minutes of fame in rather than get serious about the show. If the judges (and the viewers) are waiting for him to drop the "comedy", I think we are going to be waiting a long time...still, even though the act is already getting tiresome, part of me wants him to stick around for the novelty he's bringing to the program.
7) OK, we've established that I don't like Tatiana, Von, the quivering whiny bring-the-drama kid with the lip piercings, and there are several others that don't immediately spring to mind as I write this. However, I am saving the most disdain for Joanna Pacitti. I wish that the voting was to vote AGAINST someone, rather that FOR. I'd be pushing those buttons until my fingers fell off. I posted a couple of weeks ago about all of the connections and chances she has had in the industry. Starring on Broadway as "Annie" at age 12, two separate recording contracts with major labels, 4 songs on soundtracks for major Hollywood motion pictures...and then there are her relationships..a friend in the hierarchy of 19 Productions (who just happen to produce "Idol") and a boyfriend who is on "Dancing WIth the STars" (Mark something or other..I don't watch the show, I forget his last name..starts with a "B" I think). Anyway, add this little tidbit...Boyfriend Mark has just released a cd with his band..and one of the songs on this cd was written by.......Kara DioGuardi, the new judge on "Idol"! Tell me where this doesn't constitute a conflict of interest. Your boyfriend records a song written by someone who's judging you in a competition. I'm sorry, Paccitti's ass should be booted IMMEDIATELY.
8- So...despite my distaste for rap, I rather enjoyed the first quartet on group sing..it was a fun performance. I also enjoyed the acapella sing by Danny (the guy who lost his wife..I hope that's the last time I have to refer to him as such) and his group, and there were a few other voices that sounded good in their too-brief exposure. I am thrilled that idiot-Bikini Girl is gone, as well as bitchy Nancy WIlson (I had actually hoped that her "compatriots", lip-pierced whiner and "I want to rest my throat" girl would also get the heave-ho, but ya can't have everything). I liked hippie chick's personality, but she ultimately was not very good. I will root for welder guy and oilrigger guy, as they actually seem to be AMATEURS with no industry connections. Hopefully we won't find out otherwise.

Re: Idol Chatter
From what I understand, they are splitting the shows into 3 nights, where 12 contestants (6 guys, 6 gals I assume) vy for your votes. The top male and top female votegetters each night are in the finals. That's 6. Then the NEXT highest votegetter, male or female, from each night gets in the finals. That's 3 more for 9 total. The judges/producers then call back contestants who didn't make it for a "wild card" process, in which THEY will select the last 3 to be included in the finals. SO, potentially, you could have as much as 9 out of 12 coming from one gender, but don't be surprised if the judges do their best to "even it up" as much as posible.Ritterskoop wrote:They are not sorting by gender this year, into the top 12, anyway. The son of one of the brothers - Alan, I think. Donny and Marie's nephew. He suffers from MS and has had bad enough attacks to have him in a wheelchair for a bit. He displayed no signs of his disease while on camera (that I saw anyway).MarleysGh0st wrote:Really?
