I know I haven't been around for a long time, but I just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope to watch bbs on Jeopardy!

Good to see you again!

Let me know about your fund-raiser. If I can work it out, I'd love to attend!

You guys are the best! I still have an interface problem with AOL and the website so I have to use IE which I don't use as often. Then I am doing all these projects and I get to sleep way too late. And none of my work allows me to have access to the computer...Hopefully, one day, I'll do the whole avatar thing and make it easier to write. I truly used to get my news from the message board and I miss seeing the discussions of current events (well not the really long ones-but even then, it is usually more literate than other things I read!)
A toastmaster friend and I are repeating a fund raiser that we did last year, which involves jumping into the Hudson River in the winter (north of the Hudson River Int. Airport ;-) ) to raise money for a seriously ill child. The girl that we are helping, Ashley, has a severe form of neurofibromatosis. My friend doesn't work locally, and as someone who has lived here all my life, I know a lot of people so I am lining up sponsors, volunteers, "penguins" etc. In a tough economic climate, it is difficult to get donations and to have people buy raffles, etc. so I am trying to do unique things. I might get house seats for "In the Heights" donated, I am working on a football signed by Eli Manning, maybe I can get some VIP tickets to some shows taped in NYC. Some companies have been great enough to donate astroturf (we don't have a beach on the Hudson, which makes it tough!), banners, their restaurants for a pancake breakfast and after plunge party. I have a friend who is a former homicide detective in NV flying out to do this. The Columbia Univ. women's soccer team is planning a simultaneous plunge from their practice field. We are hoping to have local coverage and I've written to WABC to see if they will cover it, too. I'd love it if you'd come, pea, you will be an honorary "pea-nguin" for the day. (pardon the pun, my kids will tell you I am always like this.)

Honorary, my butt. I bet she will jump in with you.

Having jumped in yesterday for the Stony Point Seals, I can tell you, it was pretty cold! Besides beach balls that some swimmers toss around, there was a styrofoam airplane making a second landing on the Hudson! The Penguins will be going in March 1, 2009 at 12 PM at Nyack Memorial Park in Nyack. I am going to post a link to the website with all the information:

http://socsdpta.googlepages.com/home

We are going to raffle off a football signed by Eli Manning and possibly other teammates. We are also offering tickets to Regis and Kelly and seats (possibly house seats) to the Tony award winning "In the Heights." We also have a number of movie posters (framed) that we'll do a silent auction with. People have been so generous. One local Chili's is doing a pancake breakfast the week before "padding the penguin" so to speak, and a local salon is doing haircuts for a reduced price where the proceeds will be going to the plunge as well. There is a lot to organize, organization being definitely not in my wheelhouse, but I am choosing to this, which help keeps me focused. That, and some drugs (only kidding about the drugs :D )

Didn't see them, but there may have been less people coming out than going in, now that I think of it! :D

That was a different event, yesterday. The one she's planning will be March 1.
