Maybe because I get on her for complaining all the time.

Wait 'til it happens to you, then.

I congratulate you for living in a world where everyone is honest & treats everyone else fairly. Want to give us all train directions to it?

You never know. Better safe than sorry.

Then again, it seems to go much deeper than that...

I mean, I bet the built-in closets made a carpenter-waiting-for-an-acting-break, Harrison Ford, were well done.
Yeah, but we know that after the fact, from testimony of the customer. And Ford. And we don't, in fact, know that he showed up for the job proclaiming himself an actor, when he'd been hired as a carpenter. I'd wager he didn't do that. Except that of course the joke goes that everybody not currently acting in LA really is an actor trying to break in to the business.

I hope that isn't actually true about the LA brain surgeons, etc.
Why did you feel the need to veil it -- heavily or otherwise?
If I wanted both the many mean & the few nice people on the board to know, I'd not have veiled it in the 1st place.

We're living in an interesting world; if the media on which they're recorded doesn't all disintegrate, in a few years, kids are going to be watching videos of "their parents gone wild before they were their parents", courtesy of youtube etc. I do not understand the "letting it all hang out" concept. You don't have to give specific details to discuss a general situation.

Or, in this case, give a warning.

SpongeBobPantless says:
you are obscuring the truth

that is a form of lying

is that how an actor would do it?
I am giving an example where the names have been changed to protect the guilty. There is no court-room-oath type of truth here, just an observation about human nature.

I don't lie. I also don't tell everyone everything about everything in the world, for no apparent reason. Posting all on the internet is doing that.

You are a jackass. That is the absolute truth.

I dunno how an actor would "do it", not being one.

I only had one woman I dated tell me upfront that she had done some acting.

I learned later that some of the other women I'd dated were good actresses.

And others just acted badly.

If this is the real story, maybe said plumber/actor is socially uncomfortable. Maybe he's in a class or something where he is challenged to make small talk with people, and that's something he knows to talk about?

I don't know, it's a weird sounding situation and I guess without knowing the specific person involved, I have no real insight.

All I know is I just got a bill from my plumber and he charged me exactly $171.04 than the price he quoted me and I'm not happy. And he didn't even pretend to be an actor, he just lied.

Often a plumber can't tell the extent of the repairs he has to make until he gets into everything. They often make the estimate too low, however.

I've repeatedly said "plumber" is an analogy. I've also repeatedly stated that the person in question apparently feels they're being fair when they warn you up front that although they are working in a professional capacity as a plumber, they are "really an actor". They apparently think that saying that then gives them license to put on an act (including outright lying) when working as a plumber (substitute their real job here; make it any profession where you are expected to know what you are doing; there are degrees of licensing in plumbing & in other professions, & people are allowed to work at these professions even if they don't have the topmost license; contrast "journeyman plumber" against "master plumber", for instance.)

I've also said repeatedly that we're not talking "small talk/social situation" here. We're talking "introductory proclamation" of someone who is exercising a profession. I thought it was just weird at the introduction; now that I know how they operate, I can see that they really think that introductory proclamation was "fair warning" about future matters.

I'd said:

It is sarcasm. I guess I get to put you into the group of people who just don't comprehend sarcasm, irony, etc.

What you said was, previously, was:
And I still can not figure why you have to veil everything.
Therefore, to interpret my response to the sarcasm-impaired:

The internet is not full of your friends, people who will protect your back, a place where you can speak freely (or post movies of wild parties starring you, if that's your thing; some poor stupid kid in Mass is currently facing possible child-pornography charges for cell-phone-sending their own naked picture, as well as being hounded by the gagillion other, mean kids the so-called friend they sent the picture to passed it on to).

You may think the internet is populated only by people who have your best interests at heart, but that's just being naive.

sarcasm: from the greek "to tear flesh"

harsh or bitter derision, utterance designed to cut or give pain.
