OK. I finally deciphered what your question #23 actually was asking in its tangled way.

The candidate with the 42 vote win was BEN NELSON. (I should have known it, since my former law partner worked on the recount for his campaign to be Governor, and my current boss was a law school classmate of Nelson.)

Turns out this is former vivid Video "Vivid Girl" Ginger Lynn Allen, who lost out to Sharon Stone for the role in "Casino."

Something I find strange....


I can't imagine sss would do a puzzle like this and not include Sid Silverman, the driving force behind Variety for years.

The only Silverman I was aware of in connection with Variety was Sime Silverman, who founded Variety, and I couldn't find another famous person named Sime (it was tough enough finding another Shel).

I don't think so. Being the "Vivid Girl" is not a role. I can find no reference to her losing to Sharon Stone forCasino.

I'd say the Sharon Stone role is in Basic Instinct, but of the actresses who lost out to Sharon Stone, none seem to have beaten Traci Lords for a role.

I don't think so. Being the "Vivid Girl" is not a role. I can find no reference to her losing to Sharon Stone forCasino.

I'm not that familiar with who or what a Vivid Girl actually is. I assumed it was a title under which an actress would appear when she, um, acted in a Vivid movie. And I have seen it reported in a number of places that Ginger Lynn was considered somewhat seriously for the role in Casino. Ginger Lynn (Allen) was the answer I was looking for.

This is unrelated to the puzzle, but how do you pronounce "Sime"? Does it rhyme with time or Jimmy (or something else I haven't yet considered)?

Okay, this is a drive-by posting, and I probably don't understand the Tangredi correctly, but reading the original posting, I thought #9 about Drew Barrymore and "Scream" might refer to JESSICA HARPER, who has done several films with Dario Argento, and I see his name in a partial, so how sure is the match using Carol Kane? just wonderin'.

Three of the remaining famous people are associated with current network television, two in the US and one abroad.

One of your remaining pairings is wrong. Keep in mind however, that you have given yourself alternatives on some of the pairings, and on those pairings, at least of of your alternatives is correct. There are no alternatives given on the wrong pairing.

That could be referring to this pairing:
