Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/27/09
1. It's not in the words that you told me, girl
It's not in the way you say you're mine, ooh
It's not in the way that you came back to me
It's not in the way that your love set me free
Hold the Line - Toto
2. Can you feel me tremble when we touch?
Can you feel the hand of fate
Reaching out to both of us
This love affair can't wait
I Can't Hold Back - Survivor
3. And if they stare
Just let them burn their eyes
On you moving.
And if they shout
Don't let it change a thing
That you're doing.
Hold Your Head Up - Argent
4. You see it all around you
Good lovin' gone bad
And you believe it's too late
When you realize what you had
Hold on Loosely - .38 Special
5. And when I touch you
I feel happy inside
It's such a feelin' that my love
I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide
I Want To Hold Your Hand - Beatles
6. With a little love, and some tenderness
We'll walk upon the water
We'll rise above the mess
Hold My Hand - Hootie & the Blowfish
7. I’m goin' my way, your lover.
If you get cold I’ll be your cover.
Don't have to worry `cause I’m here,
No need to suffer baby, I’m here.
Hold On I'm Coming - Sam & Dave
8. You could sustain
Or are you comfortable with the pain?
You've got no one to blame for your unhappiness
You got yourself into your own mess
Hold On - Wilson Phillips
9. Accroches-toi a ton reve
Accroches-toi a ton reve
Quand tu vois ton bateau partir
Quand tu sents -- ton coeur se briser
Accroches-toi a ton reve.
Hold on Tight - ELO (I'm glad our French speakers were able to confirm that the site I pulled this from got the French right. And yes, they do sing this verse in French in the song...)
10. there's nobody in the future
so baby let me hand you my love
oh, there's no step for you to dance to
so slip your hand inside of my glove
Hold Me - Fleetwood Mac
11. How do we explain
something that took us by surprise
Promises in vain
Love that is real, but in disguise
Hold On To The Nights - Richard Marx
12. Having good luck with your financial situation

No way! Really? I swear I do not remember that and I loved ELO BITD! I haven't heard this song except for commercials and sitcoms for so long I probably wouldn't have recognized it if you hadn't used the title in the lyrics (merci, Mlle. Hansen!), so I shouldn't be too surprised. I'll wager if I actually heard the whole song again I'd probably sing right along with the French and not even think about it.
I was thinking about finding an ELO Greatest Hits CD when they had an ELO segment on I Love the 70s day before yesterday. Now I may have to do that, just in the interests of science. Ha!
But, hell, it got me a JJCP, so it's all good........

Okay--does the guy from ELO sing for the Travelling Wilburys? I just remember hearing the song in my head, and that's the voice I heard.
Then the John Cougar song--I was singing it in my head with his voice, and I got to the line about "go to work" and it just continued "in some highrise and vacation down in the Gulf of Mexico" still in his voice, and I knew Pink Houses didn't fit the theme so it couldn't be right.
The voices in my head are leading me astray, I'm tellin' ya!

John Cougar... It took me forever to get Hurts So Good out of my head so I could get the title on that one. Then I laid in bed last night going crazy because I couldn't remember my favourite song of his ("okay, it was on Nothing Matters and What If It Did and it repeated the same thing over and over and had a great part with just drums.......") and, once it finally came to me, I fell asleep right away. Ha!

(If this means nothing to you, I highly recommend James Thurber's "The Night the Bed Fell." Heck--read it anyway! It's hilarious.)

Ha! I have more Perth Amboy nights than not. It must run in the family. Whenever my grandma or great aunt calls, I know it's going to be "what was the name of that movie where Norma Shearer is in love with Leslie Howard and he dies in the war?" or "how many wives of Henry VIII got their heads chopped off?".
My mom used to do the same thing with sports until I talked her into cable internet (she still does sometimes anyway, because she says it's easier to just call me).

Lucky you! My sister who lives near here makes my vagueness look amateurish, and hers has been like that since birth. We'll talk about things we did and she'll ask "Was I there?" She has seriously blanked out large parts of life! (We were the two of the sisters who were the National Merit Finalists, which says something about academia that can't possibly be good...)WheresFanny wrote:Ha! ANYway, I've long been the person who would get the calls at 3 am (How do you spell "chihuahua"? ) but the advent of the internet has caused that to taper off, except from her. Like she called me when I was at a birthday party a few weeks ago and when I got home I called her back and told her what I had found from Google, and of course she hadn't considered checking the internet. We just look at each other and interject "Perth Amboy!" 50 billion times when we do our road trips because we blank out on stuff so frequently.
I just read today where heavy coffee consumption helps head off dementia, but you couldn't prove it by me...
