Was it her motor scooter or one provided by Giant Eagle?

Hey BDM, I think this may have been discussed on the old board, but I don't recall your experience. Have you ever tried drinking 100% cherry juice when you're pre-gouty?
The first time I had an episode of what I'm now pretty sure is gout, the doctor didn't know what it was, despite x-rays and labwork, and it passed in a few days. The episodes got more severe each time. When Aleve, ice and elevation no longer seemed to help, I checked the internet again and found the cherry juice recommendation. In addition to that, I found that 2 of the things that can lead up to gout attacks are stress and dehydration. That jived with the fact that my worst attack came just after having a nasty flu for a few days. I tried drinking a whole bottle of cherry juice. In a few hours, I found the unfortunate side effect that, for me, anyway, the cherry juice was a POWERFUL laxative. A few hours after that, all gouty symptoms were gone. Now, I keep a bottle handy at all times. I know I'm going to have to get to the bathroom fast in a couple of hours, but that beats gimping around for 2 or 3 days.

I mentioned this to BDM a long time ago. But it doesn't have to be cherry juice - it can be cherries in any form, raw, cooked in a pie, or whatever.Estonut wrote:Hey BDM, I think this may have been discussed on the old board, but I don't recall your experience. i have tried both the cherry extract and the cherry juice.I dint feel any change.
I like your idea of guzzling the whole bottle once symptoms present.I will do that today.
dehydrating + putting joints in a stress position seem to kick off an attack.
my current one is on day 8.I have had aleve, advil, indocin, prednisone, vicodin(i think there is acetaminophen in there) and a cortisone type shot. All that has deswelled the knee by 60%.The last 40 is always tough.
i think i am being punished for having good hair.

Be sure to read the label on the juice. Many juices (I assume not just cherry) these days are 90% something else (grape?) and only 10% of what's on the label. If you look around enough, you should be able to find some that is 100% cherry. To my surprise, my local store (Ralphs chain) had about 5 various juices labelled "cherry juice," but only 2 of them were 100%.BigDrawMan wrote:i have tried both the cherry extract and the cherry juice.I dint feel any change.

And if your experience is the same as mine was, make sure your path to the bathroom is clear, as you will be RUNNING there in about 2 hours.
I didn't realize you were talking about your knee. I was only heard of gout in the feet before. When I was having problems with an old knee injury, prior to having it arthroscoped, the thing that helped my "water on the knee" the most, by far, was ice and Aleve. You didn't mention icing yours.
