Penn State goalie among Miss America finalists

#1 Post by silvercamaro » Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:24 am

I didn't want either Christie or Clem to miss this news from the beauty pageant world.

Tara Wheeler, the reigning Miss Virginia, is a goalie on Penn State's women's ice hockey team.

What was her talent, stopping slap shots by Gretzky and Esposito?
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Sadly, she didn't get that far. She seemed awkward onstage to me, and wasn't one of the cute ones. That's a shame, because it's so cool she's a goalie! I guess she's more comfortable hiding behind all the equipment than glopping on the makeup.

Does anybody else remember the old Miller Lite commercial where they combined a beauty pageant and a hockey game? ("And Miss Congeniality gets two minutes for slashing!!")

I was going to show this thread to my daughter. But I think I already know what her response would be:

Slap him. She was attractive enough, but not particularly "cute." She didn't strike me as the type who spent all her life in pageants. She appeared, to me, to be the type who was in it for the scholarship money instead of as a stepping stone to her career as a game show hostess or TV news anchor.
