You think he perfected his bedside manner with Billy Martin?

#1 Post by nitrah55 » Mon Jan 26, 2009 8:19 am

Among the revelations in Joe Torre's forthcoming book is that he learned he had prostate cancer not from his doctors, but from George Steinbrenner. Ewwww.
I am about 25% sure of this.

This brings up way too many thoughts and images. None of them very pretty.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

At least the way I read the article on ESPN.com about the book, it wasn't that Torre learned of the prostate cancer from Steinbrenner -- it was that Steinbrenner had already found out about it before Torre had the chance to inform him.
Bazinga!

It doesn't say that.

It says Steinbrenner learned Torre had prostate cancer before Torre had a chance to tell him personally.

For the record, this is what I read this morning, by Michael Schmidt, sportswriter for the New York Times:

"For instance, who knew Bernie Williams once forgot his son at Yankee Stadium after a night game and had to call Andy Pettitte to drive him home? Who knew Torre found out he had prostate cancer in 1999 from the Yankees’ principal owner, George Steinbrenner, not his doctors? "

If my initial post was incorrect, blame Michael Schmidt. Or Rexer, if that will save time.
I am about 25% sure of this.

Apologies for assuming you had the same source as the rest of us.

I don't want to blame Rexer- that'll cost me $10 and that's all I got on me at present.

Well, that's $10 more than I have on me at the moment.
