Article about one of Monday's SyndieBAM contestants

#1 Post by MarleysGh0st » Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:31 pm

Brian Schoby, a Phys Ed teacher from Belleville, IL (Beast's neighborhood?) will enter the Hot Seat on Monday. He auditioned in the summer of 2007 in Chicago.
Schoby finally got invited to appear on "Millionaire" in September, more than a year after the audition but only two weeks into his new teaching job at Edwardsville. He e-mailed district Superintendent Ed Hightower asking for guidance on whether to miss work.

"(Hightower) wrote back that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and if this was something I wanted to do, I had his blessing, as long as I took personal days," Schoby said.

Here's another article about Brian's appearance:

Schoby's wife, also a teacher, first suggested to Brian that he try out for the show.

"Since Angela and I are both teachers, we have summers off. In 2007, we were watching the show when they announced there would be auditions in Schaumburg, near Chicago. We were living in Chicago at the time and Angela suggested I audition," Schoby, 34, said.

Doesn't anyone who is allowed on the show audition anymore because it was their idea? The reluctant contestant shtick is getting old.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Well, there was the contestant on Friday (I'm patiently waiting for the transcript) who told Meredith he'd been trying out for five years!

Meredith seemed to think that was impressive.

Ah, but whose idea was it for his first one?

Meredith should be completely awestruck when you're sitting opposite her.

All those who have been trying to get on (and been unsuccessful thus far) since you had to pay for the phone call, raise their hand!

Marley <----- Oops, actually NOT raising hand! I didn't start playing until November '99, when they went to toll-free calls. Quite ironic, that I wouldn't pay for a 900 call, considering the effort I've put into the quest since then.

Of course, the problem is that Meredith never wants to admit that primetime WWTBAM ever existed.

I have never even heard her refer to the show as "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." It's always just "Millionaire" or "The Millionaire Show."

Yeah, if I ever get into the Hot Seat, getting Meredith to say the full name of the show would be one of my goals.

Of course, since the APs support Meredith in her continuing rewrite of history, I can't use that goal to any (successful) effect in my auditions.
