Indians don't feel good about 'Slumdog Millionaire'

#1 Post by Bob Juch » Fri Jan 23, 2009 10:29 pm

The story of an impoverished street child in Mumbai, which has won 10 Oscar nods, is a stereotypical Western portrayal, Indians say, that ignores the wealth and progress their country has seen.

and let me assure you that a brilliant movie about the movers and shakers of the new financial and technological elite would be criticized as missing the reality of the 99% of India which is not rich and advanced.

By the same critics.

And a "brilliant movie about the movers and shakers of the new financial and technological elite" would be seen by about three people here and thirty people in India and get zero publicity or awards.

Maybe I am missing something, but I see the movie as primarily being about destiny, hope and love, rather than "Indian poverty".
