Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/21/09

#1 Post by Evil Squirrel » Wed Jan 21, 2009 5:37 am

Who else would LB call on to host his Wacky Wednesday game on National Squirrel Appreciation Day but his most popular Merry Man of all time..... ME!!!! I am so glad that the bigwigs in Washington threw all those lavish pre-SAD parties in my honor yesterday... I can't wait to show off my shiny NSAS award to the new Prez....

Unfortunately, I ain't very good at using the internet for anything other than downloading squirrel porn and posting on the Bored, so I was unable to find any lyrics to post for the songs I included in today's game. But fear not, everyone, if there is one thing this squirrel can do, it's draw! So I drew a pretty picture that represents a line or two of the lyrics from 12 different songs. Your job is to figure out the actual lyric from my drawing, and of course to provide the normal LS answer of the song's title and artist.... musical artist, that is.... I don't like to be associated with some of those guitar wielding druggies. While LB will be somewhat generous on grading the lyrics you provide, they MUST include all of the basic elements from the real lyrics that are included in the picture. All of pictures below are depicting just one or two lines of a song's lyrics, but if it is a two liner, you must give both to get credit.....

Please note that none of the pictures below are my usual masterpieces. I only made them good enough so that you could figure out what the hell was going on in each of them, and that isn't easy to do with just a mouse. Hopefully everyone will be able to play today's game from a computer that will allow them to view Photobucket images. If not, let LB know and he'll see what he can do. And by some chance if you can't see the images on the Bored, then try this link to the album I am keeping them in...

Good luck, and have a happy National Squirrel Appreciation Day! Ooh, and it's even my 666th post on the Bored!!!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 1 point for the lyrics each picture represents....

Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

--squirrelmama (10/3/07)

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

This is hard, because you can't work off the pictures while answering! I had to actually *gasp* WRITE THINGS DOWN, so pardon the vagueness. I mean, more than usual...
You put in extra effort, so I will!
1: Davy Crockett Peter Pan Elvis Presley Disneyland, We Didn't Start the Fire, Billy Joel

2: You flew your (something something--could be women) up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun, You're So Vain, Carly Simon

3: I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac, Boys of Summer, Don Henley

4: There's a little black spot on the sun today. It's the same old thing as yesterday. King of Pain, Sting/Police (can't remember)

5: Something like; Paint myself red and black and blue and gray, Mr. Jones, Counting Crows

6: I'm hearing; Teacher tries to tell me that one and one makes three, but can't get a song out of it

7: Patty gave birth to a 10 lb baby boy, Young hearts Beat Free, Rod Stewart

8: It's the pardon that comes a minute too late? Something like that. Ironic, Alanis Morissette

9: Nothin.

10: Vaguely familiar sentences drift across my mind

11:We haven't had that spirit here since 1969, Hotel California (Hate this song but love the guitar work), The Eagles

12: Something like; Lennon read a book on Marx, American Pie, Don Maclean
Most excellent, ES! This should be a mandatory game for all BBs!

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day to you, sir.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Wow! One of my favorite songs of the 80s and I whiffed on it too! I couldn't get Robin Hood out of my mind and I couldn't think of lyrics with his name, so I went with the gag. So now that I've looked back at other's answers and seen the ones I missed, I'm bummed that I couldn't think of the Sheryl Crow lyric or the Rod Stewart lyric. The others I probably would have missed anyway.

Spoiler
1. A song involving Rocky Racoon, Robin Hood, & a Tiger. Huh?

Rocky Racoon/The Beatles.

2. Curious George Goes to Canada

3. Who Shot The Blago/The Illinois Crooklets

4. Here Comes The Sun/The Beatles (lyrics: Here Comes The Sun etc!)

5. Paint It Black/The Rolling Stones. Except the paint on that brush is red. Paint It Red?

lyrics: I see a red door & I want to paint it black; or, in bizarro universe, I see a black door & I want to paint it red

6. Wonderful World/Sam Cooke "don't know much about history etc". Mentions trigonometry too, which the drawing is clearly not about, but also says "I don't claim to be an A student", which character in drawing clearly is not.

7. Having My Baby/Paul Anka (lyrics: Is a wonderful way of telling the world that you love me, even though I wrote this crap song, & am a fool 'cause the baby isn't even the same species as me)

8. That's The Night That The Lights Went Out In Georgia/Vicki Lawrence (lyrics say "that's the night that they hung an innocent man, not "electrocuted an innocent man", but, hey, maybe the wires are influenced differently in Vicki's Georgia

9. Time To Kiss/Skunk & Cat

10. Car Wash/The Group that did Car Wash

11. Soon To Go Under Liquor Store/The Drunk Shoppers

12. Give Peace A Chance/The Beatles; also could be Imagine/John Lennon

lyrics: All we are saying, is give peace a chance

or Imagine there's no heaven etc

I wish I had more time to work on this but my car is rapidly being enclosed in an ice cube as we speak, & I have to go free it.

Plea
Dear ES --

I would like to request double JJC points for #10 since so few other people got it, and it's usually the other way around. I usually get only the ones that everybody else gets.

No scritches, just my everlasting gratitude, which may not be turned in for scritches.

 Thank you.

Sloppy Drunk Guy!
1. We Didn't Start the Fire - Billy Joel

Davy Crockett, Peter Pan, Elvis Presley, Disneyland (I didn't get this one until I actually said the names out loud trying to get a stream of consciousness going. If you hadn't put them in the order it's sung, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. Ha!)

2. You're So Vain - Carly Simon

You flew your Lear Jet into Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun. (And all this time Warren Beatty has been taking the credit when this song was really about ORB! Does Kiki know?)

3. Boys of Summer - Don Henley

I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac

4. King of Pain - The Police

There's a little black spot on the sun today
The same as it was yesterday

5. I'm trippin, Joe! - Blue Boy and the Beatnik

I paint myself black, blue, red and grey

6. Cult of Personality - Living Colour

They tell you one and one makes three in the Cult of Personality (This made the recent 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs. It had been forever since I'd seen that video and I forgot how well Vernon What's His Face worked that singlet.)

7. Young Turks - Rod Stewart

Patty gave birth to a ten pound baby boy

8. Advice to a Rookie - Fanny and the Executioners

There is nothing you can't fix
As long as you're not the one pulling the switch

9. Stealing Time - The Kissing Bandit

Is that a watch in your pocket
Or are you just happy to see me?

10. All I Wanna Do - Sheryl Crow

Drinking beer at noon on a Tuesday
In the bar across the street from the car wash (that's as close as I can come, she rambles a lot)

11. Hotel California - The Eagles (until I came to this one I had the Eagles doing Boys of Summer!)

He said 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1969' (I know this has to be the right song, but what's the significance of the SDG Liquor Store?)

As I was previewing this, they had a Kennedy update on tv and this one hit me. Ha!

12. American Pie - Don McLean (and we were just talking about Don McLean the other night!)

While Lennon read a book on Marx
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!
