careful what you name the kids
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Three New Jersey siblings whose names have Nazi connotations have been placed in the custody of the state, police said Wednesday.
Holland Township Police Sgt. John Harris said workers from the state Division of Youth and Family Services removed 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his younger sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, from their home Tuesday.
Harris said family services did not tell police the reason the children were removed. Agency spokeswoman Kate Bernyk said it does not comment on specific cases.

Pretty clear why they were removed then. He was using his kids as statements. What annoyed me the most was his complete disingenuity.a1mamacat wrote:Yup. That reason, if accurate, would be very troubling to me. --BobWheresFanny wrote:Pretty clear why they were removed then. He was using his kids as statements. Pretty clear? You really think that the state should remove the kids because of what the parents named them?WheresFanny wrote:Pretty clear why they were removed then. I'd be surprised if that is the reasoning of the Division of Youth and Family Services.

I'd be surprised if that is the stated reason, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if that's the "real" reason.andrewjackson wrote:Pretty clear? I'll bet there were drugs in the house.

My guess would be child porn. Naming ones children stoopid names isn't criminal, but the lack of judgment it expresses tends to spill over into other areas of parenting, in my experience.

Those who have the equivalent of police power but do not have the same legal restraint scare the dickens out of me. Two minutes searching blogs gives the NJ statute which as I read it is wide enough to allow the removal of any child from almost anyone; the subsection on cruelty begins...
Cruelty shall consist......
and lists reasonable specific types including excessive corporal punishment, but ends with the grab bag provision
any willful act of omission or commission whereby unnecessary pain and suffering, whether mental or physical, is caused or permitted to be inflicted on a child; (e) or exposing a child to unnecessary hardship, fatigue or mental or physical strains that may tend to injure the health or physical or moral well-being of such child.

Re: careful what you name the kids
I thought the reason that was pretty clear was that he was using his children as statements. For some reason, I thought the the MSNBC that Saucy posted was a link to the previous article about the family that had an interview with the parents and went in depth on how they put their children out there into situations just to rile people up so they can spout off, so I kept my statement short because I thought it would be explained by the article. I must have been confusing the blue font of mother as being MSNBC and a link. Ha!andrewjackson wrote:Pretty clear? Forcing people to acknowledge the full name of your child (because he always wedges the Hitler in there, even wanting it on the birthday cake. How many people put a full name on a birthday cake unless there's an ulterior motive?) and then shielding your own ass by saying "he's just a little kid, how could people hold that against him?' could be considered endangering your child.
If I remember right, neither of them work, drawing SSI . Why is it so many times that these people who think they can do whatever they want and the government should have no say in how they live or what they do with their kids and butt out have no problem with the government butting into their lives by giving them money and supporting them?

This isn't the exact article I remember reading (this was later and he backpedaled a bit from the story I read), but it carries some of the same quotes and really shows the disingenuity I spoke of before.

I really hope that Mr. Campbell he comes to his senses and changes their names - poor kids. Something reasonable that flows well with the family name seems like the right way to go. I think he should go with: "Chicken Noodle", "Beef Barley" and "Cream of Mushroom".

Bad bad names: Nuthin' new!
In 1932, the parents of a 4-year-old went to court to change his legal name. Christened Herbert Hoover Jones in 1928, when the commerce secretary and Republican presidential nominee was a national hero, the boy deserved relief, said his parents, from "the chagrin and mortification which he is suffering and will suffer" for sharing a moniker with the now-disgraced chief executive. His new name: Franklin D. Roosevelt Jones.
