Buzzer Blog is reporting that Sony is buying Michael Davies' company, Embassy Row. I have no inside infromation about whether this is good news or bad news, or what led to this action. I personally thought it was a good thing to have an active independent game show production company on the East Coast, so I'm sorry to see it get absorbed by the industry Goliath.

Sony Buys Embassy Row
By Josef Adalian
Sony is buying Embassy Row, the production company run by "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" executive producer Michael Davies.
The move, confirmed by two people familiar with the agreement, cements an already strong relationship between Mr. Davies and Sony. The studio signed a three-year overall deal with Embassy Row in January 2006. What's more, Sony reality chief Holly Jacobs worked with Mr. Davies when both were at Buena Vista Television.
Mr. Davies is also one of the most respected names in the game-show business, and Sony is a major player in GSN, the cable network devoted to game shows. Mr. Davies has recently been developing more projects for GSN, a role that could expand with his new role at the company.
Sony's syndication arm—producer of "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!"—also seems likely to benefit from Mr. Davies' integration into the company.
In addition to "Millionaire," Mr. Davies is also an executive producer on RDF USA's "Wife Swap," and has produced shows such as "Power of 10" and Yahoo!'s "The 9."
Embassy Row has been based in both New York and London. The company has produced series for ABC, CBS, GSN, VH1, Comedy Central, USA and ESPN.
Representatives for Sony and Mr. Davies could not be reached for comment.
