I wasn't counting but the mix seemed as it has been in years past. The fella with the deep voice sounded more like Michael Clarke Duncan than Barry White. There may be some potential there as it's tough to really rate anyone based on a few acapella bars. It's easy to weed non-singers out but much tougher to place those with good potential. I had never heard of Kara whats-her-name before. At least she seems to have a backbone as far as rating the potentials, though.

I liked Pink Haired Girl - real talent and enthusiasm and class

Hated Bikini Girl - talented, but cheap and crass.

Didn't have any really memorable guys, except the young Korean/Vietnamese lad. He was very good.

I had never heard of Kara before. I found her a little full of herself. I will give her a pass however until I see more.

I think the young "goth" guy may be a sleeper. I tend to think that those with knock-out voices tend to not do as well as anticipated. But, watching someone grow into the idol persona is a lot more interesting - ala David Cook. I thought Katharine McPhee is such a case. Vocal knockout from the jump yet did not win.

OK, if nobody else wants to say it, I will. The two best moments of the night:

- Ryan getting Bikini Chick's tongue shoved down his throat while the background music was Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" played, and

- Ryan attempting to high five....a blind man.

I think all they really mean is that they'll be showing the auditions for only three weeks instead of the usual five. But they'll still be chock full o' bad singers. I do wish they'd give us about 30 seconds of each golden ticket winner tho.

I did not see the show. Did he say that he was half-Korean, half-Vietnamese, or are you saying that you do not know his ethnicity? (I did see a picture of a Vietnamese lad with a serious afro -- is that the "lad"?)

That wasn't him - that guy's mom was half Vietnamese and half Caucasian. If he said what his dad's ethnicity was, I missed it. He did not make the cut - not even close.

I don't think the guy saucy referred to said anything about his ethnic background.

Like Pea, I liked the rocker chick and the visually challenged guy. Not sure how far the rocker girl will go..I think back to Amanda Overmyer and I doubt someone even edgier will capture America's hearts should she get past Hollywood Round.

I also liked the young lady who visits with the elderly. Nice kid with a decent voice.

Assuming they survive Hollywood, I think these contestants will gain many votes:

JB, the "non-Afro'd" 16 year-old kid of mixed heritage who already has my granddaughter melting into a puddle of goo.

Michael the oil-rigger, who will have the older females dialing their fingers off (when I stated that opinion, my wife said "OH YEAH HE WILL"..when I looked at her with cocked eyebrow, she said "well, he's a good family man, too". I said, "of course it doesn't hurt that that sensitive soul is encased in a rugged manly body, does it?" to which she answered, "well, yeah, there's that, too...")

Scott the almost blind fella. His voice was a wee bit shaky here and there (nerves?), but quite nice overall and you can't beat his story.

I kinda liked Alex the nerd (the "closet guy"). He won't make it past Hollywood, but he does have a pretty darn good voice. I'm glad they gave him a Golden Ticket. He needs to expand his horizons beyond that closet.

Cowboy Hat Girl annoyed the crap outta me. When she said her influences were Hilary Duff and Madonna, I knew I was in for aural torture.

That guy who sang the Tears For Fears song sounded like a cross between ET and, if you've ever seen the Disney movie "The Black Cauldron", the furry creature who was always after the "crunchies and munchies".

I dint care for the kid who makes horror movies. Brings back bad memories of Danny Noreiga from last year.

The only time I got pissed at the judges was when they picked on the fella with the low voice. Sure, he was no American Idol, but he wasn't full of attitude and seemed like a really nice guy. He didn't deserve the roasting they gave him.

When I saw that kid with the Afro, I thought it was either Chaka Khan or Oscar Gamble (Yankee from the late 70's).

And finally, that "X-Ray" guy was no great singer, but he'd be a lot of fun at parties!

Now it's time for Kansas City.

I have always wondered if people who have such pinhole vision might be better off being totally blind. Better off, like life would be easier.

I'm guessing they would take the difficulties. Mom preferred her macular degeneration-limited vision to none.
