Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/13/09

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Jan 13, 2009 8:24 am

Here's the next installment of Tuesday Wordplay, featuring 12 songs that have a certain word in common in their titles. No points for knowing the word, though it may help you get some of the other songs....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist.....

1. Won't you look down upon me Jesus
You gotta help me make a stand
You just got to see me through another day

2. If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine

3. I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean

4. 'Til forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow,
I know, It can't stop, I wonder.

5. Why don't you
Why don't you
Go outside
Go outside

6. A cool evening dance
Listening to the bluegrass band takes the chill
From the air till they play the last song

7. I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
Baby I could never steal you from another
It's such a shame our friendship had to end

8. The crops we grew last summer weren't enough to pay the loans
Couldn't buy the seed to plant this spring and the Farmers Bank foreclosed

9. Seven lonely days
And a dozen towns ago
I reached out one night
And you were gone

10. All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
ya don't like my point of view
ya think I'm insane

11. You said you didn't need me in your life
I guess you were right
Well I never meant to cause you no pain
But it looks like I did it again

12. After a while we run under a tree
I turn to her and she kisses me
There with the beat of the rain on the leaves
Softly she breathes and I close my eyes
Sharing our love under stormy skies

Why must you torture me like this?
This would be a good one for The Carp to handle, but it might be too much of a giveaway to the others. The Carp may come visit here any minute. Again. He might start having his mail forwarded to my house.... :x

1. Won't you like down upon me Jesus
You gotta help me make a stand
You just got to see me through another day

Familiar! (On reflection, it has to be Fire and Rain, James Taylor. The fog lifted as I reached the end! There's hope for me yet!) (And I think I saw him in concert? I'm seriously unsure about this. I think he hates performing...)

2. If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine

VERY familiar!

3. I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean

Here Comes the Rain Again, the Eurythmics, and if it weren't for the theme my vague ass woulda put down Sweet Dreams instead...

4. 'Til forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow,
I know, It can't stop, I wonder.

Ack! Nope. (Okay, now I saw my post in preview, and the "wonder" makes me think it's Who'll Stop the Rain, CCR)

5. Why don't you
Why don't you
Go outside
Go outside

Nope

6. A cool evening dance
Listening to the bluegrass band takes the chill
From the air till they play the last song

Mandolin Rain, Local Hero Bruce Hornsby (I saw him when he performed with the Other Bruce. Some guy named Springsteen...)

7. I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
Baby I could never steal you from another
It's such a shame our friendship had to end

Purple Rain, Prince

8. The crops we grew last summer weren't enough to pay the loans
Couldn't buy the seed to plant this spring and the Farmers Bank foreclosed

I will know this and hate myself for missing it...

9. Seven lonely days
And a dozen towns ago
I reached out one night
And you were gone

Kentucky Rain, The Late (or not) Great Elvis Presley

10. All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
ya don't like my point of view
ya think I'm insane

No Rain, Blind Melon featuring the late (decidedly) Shannon Hoon

11. You said you didn't need me in your life
I guess you were right
Well I never meant to cause you no pain
But it looks like I did it again

Also familiar

12. After a while we run under a tree
I turn to her and she kisses me
There with the beat of the rain on the leaves
Softly she breathes and I close my eyes
Sharing our love under stormy skies

I Hear Laughter in the Rain, Neil Sedaka (I confess I like this song. Call me sappy...)
What?

Kinda shocking. I actually recognize about half of these despite the fact that none of them are from Jimmy Boofay (although he does have at least one that fits the theme).

That doesn't happen often with LS games!

That is just too funny.

How could we have made the same joke about a different song?

My dad watches her every single day - he says "It's the best part of the day." and "It's life in the raw."

I kinda like that you think we have the same sense of humor - refined and all.

Clem fainted today from the happiness of knowing more than two songs, so I'm going to submit his for him. Also I'll campaign for points on the rare occasions that Clem doesn't know it. Besides since it's the one day this week there's no MM, I figured I could step in.

Kissing The Crippled Prostitute In The Rain - I'm All Wet

Speaking of Wet, I'm willing to bet that one of these is from the Barbara Streisand Album of the same name that was like all water and rain so I'm just gonna go ahead and say that one of these is from that album for a bonus point (for Clem of course.)
Also
I'm gonna go ahead and guess the word is Rain...and you have to give Clem a point for that too, screw the rules (and then maybe I'll do the same to you  )
Show Clem The Points!!!!
I will do anything to get Clem points. Seriously.
