I need an opinion on a ruling I made which is at the heart of TLITF's scoring discrepency....
Should "Camp Grenada" count as an alternate title for the song "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah (A Letter From Camp)"? I did not count Camp Grenada for anyone who answered it because I didn't think it was the proper title. This is why I normally don't include songs that are out of my comfort range (I only remember it from a hilarious edition of "Plays of the Week" SportsCenter did during its glory days of the early 90's). But pretty much every site I looked this song up at doesn not list Camp Grenada as its title, though there are a few who do (Though you know how much bad info is out on the net).....
Opinions?

Although I've never heard it referred to as Camp Grenada, I can where somebody might think that's the title.

To be honest, now that I realize it's a ruling, I don't have any problem with it. Addition mistakes I'll quibble with, which is what I thought this was. Judges rulings, I won't. I didn't notice that my title was wrong here. Sorry.littlebeast13 wrote:I need an opinion on a ruling I made which is at the heart of TLITF's scoring discrepency....

Camp Granada should count. It's close enough that everyone who knows the song knows that's it.

Now that I've thought about this (why it even matters to me to think about it, I don't know), I would probably go with no, because I wouldn't give the points to somebody who just put in a line of the lyric. The instructions are give the title, not a line in the lyrics. Plus it would be opening a precedent to have to count something like "it's that song that has the part that goes "don't say that you love me, just tell me that you want me" when the actual title is Tusk.WheresFanny wrote:That's why I always did 10 points per answer, so I could do half-credit when someone gave the line of a song as the title.littlebeast13 wrote:I need an opinion on a ruling I made which is at the heart of TLITF's scoring discrepency....

Not just picking on TLITF here, I wouldn't expect points for it, either. Although I would probably give the person the benefit the next time they were close on a title but didn't have an exact word right.

This is why I was asking if Camp Grenada was an acceptable alternate title or not, which is the only thing I am concerned about. If it isn't, then I plan on sticking to my guns of not accepting that for an answer. I am always generous at giving the benefit of the doubt if I am sure that the person actually knows the answer, but that type of ruling generally comes into play more in games like the QoD. Here, you either know the song's title or you don't (I lose beaucoup points being clueless on titles myself in LS games I play). I will be forgiving if you are close to the title (Missing or adding words), but that is not the case here either....
I am still leaning towards no, but I will leave this open at least the rest of the day.....

If someone had given just the parenthetical title, I would have given points (that usually got half points in my game).
And ha! I was going to say that sometimes it drives me nuts because I know the song and can't pull a title, but I didn't want to appear whiny. Although, no matter how many times either one of us have had brain freeze on that, mini is probably the queen of knowing the song, but not the title.

My problem is that I hear songs all the time without ever bothering to know what the title is in the first place. And if I never happen to hear it, and it isn't obvious, I never learn it....
Mini seems to be really good at hearing songs in her head but not being able to pull them through to the chorus beacuse she can usually come up with a pretty accurate description of the song for not being able to identify it. And she had a bad case of Old Timers on this game, because I'd swear she missed 3 or 4 she got right the first time it was posted....

It's MHO that Camp Granada has the gist of the title in the answer (A Letter from Camp . . . Granada).I will try not to be too strict on scoring song titles, but you have to have the gist of the title in your answer to receive credit.
It's also MHO that in the spirit of trying not to be too strict on scoring song titles, it should be counted correct.

Just to be clear. I am no longer arguing for the point. I originally missed the fact that I got the song title wrong, as opposed to arguing that it should count. I am totally on-board with that component of my score. (I still think I deserve the points for choosing myself in Against the Wind, but that's a whole different kettle of fish
)
I hope that makes me other-than-a-punk-ass. Though Pea can call me whatever the hell she wants and I'll wear it like a badge of pride.

Re: LS Experts
But when I wrote that rule, I was referring more to what I just brought up.... that adding or subtracting words from the title itself would not count against you so long as you had the right part as the title. Basically, they are pulling the title from the wrong part of the song...SportsFan68 wrote:It's MHO that Camp Granada has the gist of the title in the answer (A Letter from Camp . . . To me, this is like when one of our deejays one time complained that half of the people who were requesting "Total Eclipse of the Heart" were asking them to play that song "Turn Around". While I am generally not strict, I am of the opinion that knowing the title of a song is simply a part of the game. I can be forgiving if you have the basics of the title in too many or too few words, but if you're just quoting the wrong part as the title, I don't think that should count. I am assuming that everyone who answered "Camp Grenada" assumed that was the song's title and not actually "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah", or even the parenthetical (A Letter From Camp)....
