Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/9/09

#51 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 8:24 am

1. Jocko says yes and I believe him
When we talk about the things I say
She hasn't got the faith or the guts to leave him
When they're standin' in each other's way
No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature - Guess Who - takinover (BTW, I hate so-called twin songs like this. To me, the whole damn song is No Sugar Tonight since it is always played together... just like I consider We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions to be one song, not two. Of course, I used a bit from the rigth half of the song just so there'd be no confusion....)

2. The years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home
Against the Wind - Bob Seger - oldernow

3. They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place
Then they'll tell you can't sleep with somebody else
My Life - Billy Joel - Second Chance

4. Well, if it rains, I don't care, don't make no difference to me
Just take that street car that's goin' uptown
Black Water - Doobie Brothers - Catfish or moon (I completely missed moonie in this song. Catfish was the BB I added this song for)

5. She'll take a tumble on you,
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue
Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes - gretagarbo

6. Are you going to take me home tonight
Ah down beside that red firelight
Are you gonna let it all hang out
Fat Bottom Girls - Queen - Fanny

7. So please
Believe in me
When I say I'm spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain'd bright colors
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsud green like bubbles
Tin Man - America - Sir Galahad

8. The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk
The constable had to come and take him away
Sloop John B - Beach Boys - Corn or John9826 (I had meant to include the stipulation that BB's couldn't be pulled from the song titles, but since I forgot, John was acceptable)

9. Working hard to get my fill, everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice, just one more time
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey - smokey

10. Flyin' high we never took the time
To stop and feel the need
Funny how those years go by
Changing you, changing me
Too Hot - Kool & the Gang - Shade

11. So I handed him my bottle, and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light
The Gambler - Kenny Rogers - Ace

12. I went hiking with Joe Spivey
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.
Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah - Allen Sherman - Ulysses

13. Heard about the old time sailor men
They eat the same thing again and again
Warm beer and bread they said could raise the dead
Well it reminds me of the menu at a Holiday Inn
Cheeseburger in Paradise - Jimmy Buffett - sunflower

14. Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds - Beatles or Elton John - plasticene

15. You never care for secrets I confide
For you I'm just an ornament, somethin' for your pride
Always runnin', never carin', that's the life you live
Stolen minutes of your time were all ya had to give
Red Rubber Ball - The Cyrcle or Simon & Garfunkel - starfish

I'm glad so many people liked this game! And ir certainly produced a lot of huge scores!

J.J. Cale Points:

Who needs JJC points when nearly half the field scored 30 points or more? But still, there were some awarded...

Marley got a JJC point for not being able to remember Kenny Rogers' last name. "Kenny, the guy with the beard" cracked me up. If he'd have mentioned his brutal plastic surgery, I'd have given him 2 (Not that he's have wanted them anyway!)

Clem broke the scoring system. His answers really cracked me up, so I gave him a supermax of 5 JJC points. It's not like Clem's a threat to anyone in this game, but I want to keep encouraging him to be funny....

Mini got 2 JJC points, one for invoking Animal Fair, which I remember from either 2nd or 3rd grade music class (Even though she said "the birds and the bees were there" when it's actually "the birds and the beasts were there" :P ). She also got one for mentioning ABBA for the Kool & the Gang song, which also got TLITF and Fanny a JJC point as well (Yes, I understand why the ABBA connection was made, but the mix-up still struck me as funny)....

Melo got a JJC point for his answer to #15...

SC got 3 JJC points for her cute answers, and I didn't just do it to satisfy Marley, they really were funny!

Kroxquo got a JJC point for originally posting his answers in the Rankings thread by mistake....

In addition to the point for ABBA, Fanny got an additional JJC point for her gratuitous "What's Happenin'" reference after I admitted to her I had never seen the show before. I'd have given her another if she had worked "hey HEY hey" into it somwehere....

TBone got a JJC point for adding a song that could have included him...

What!?!?

But I wasn't trying to be funny! I seriously was blanking out on the name. (This is why I like the multiple choice format on WWTBAM, BTW; there's no problem doing the memory search starting with the name and asking the brain cells to identify him.)

Isn't there something in the rules that will let me refuse the JJC points?

BTW, I don't recall anything about Kenny's plastic surgery. That's celebrity fluff! :P

Sorry, but you're stuck with them. :P

You don't have to try to be funny. I award them for anything that tickles my fancy. Besides, it gives you something to grumble about....

Maybe he took off for "Bottom" vs the proper "Bottomed"? Not very beastlike, though. He doesn't nitpick.

Oh, yes, you frighten me and threaten my knowledge in all things.

4. Well, if it rains, I don't care, don't make no difference to me
Just take that street car that's goin' uptown
Black Water - Doobie Brothers - Catfish or moon (I completely missed moonie in this song. Catfish was the BB I added this song for)
Based on this determination, I should get the point for SmilerGrogan.

I posted all the lyrics I used to come up with my BB answer:

9. Working hard to get my fill, everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice, just one more time
Some will win; some will lose;
Some were born to sing the blues
And it just goes on and on and on
And on and on...
. . .
Singer in a lonely room,
Smell of wine and cheap perfume,
For a smile they can share the night
And It goes on and on and on and on
And on and on...

Don't stop believin, Journey, SmilerGrogan

Oh, I thought you were talking about that song...

Smile isn't acceptable because it isn't a commonly recognized nickname of his in lieu of his actual Bored handle (I did CMA on the rules for that game). And since I use just "moon" in the rankings for moonie (Which was the worksheet for everyone), it was an obvious answer for that one that I missed....
