Transcript 11/27/2007 Tom Mathias (carryover contestant)
Tom Mathias
Nashville, TN
Real estate developer
At night he plays bass in a hard-core punk band called "The Foster Parents"
He still likes to drink beer and play rowdy music
Has 50/50 and STQ available
$50,000
Beginning "We the People," the 52-word preamble to the U.S. Constitution features all but which of these words?
A. Justice B. Welfare
C. Posterity D. Government
.
.
.
Tom does not know, mentions he had a good PAF for government issues (that lifeline is used), does not think 50/50 would be enough help.
STQ $50K
What is the only Asian country in the world with a dragon on its national flag?
A. Malaysia B. Bangladesh
C. Bhutan D. Nepal
.
.
.
50/50 left C and D.
.
.
.
Nepal was jumping out at him, he thinks that not many people know about Bhutan and it might be more appropriate for the high level. He is still leaning Nepal, so he takes the free guess and, since that was incorrect, he leaves with $25K.

I wouldn't have seen this question, but had it been in the stack, I'd have known the answer, leaving me looking at the $100K question with two lifelines still available.BBTranscriptTeam wrote:STQ $50K

Young enough to remember Schoolhouse Rock, if his appearance was any indication.starfish1113 wrote:How old was this guy?
I imagine that many people who were kids in the 70s and early 80s would simply sing the Schoolhouse Rock song in order to get the answer. That's what I did.

I have no idea when Schoolhouse Rock ended its run, but he might be too young to have seen it (although we own the DVD set of all of them, great memories!).peacock2121 wrote:He seemed young to be - maybe late 20's, early 30's.
Of course, I am old.
I have never seen an episode of Schoolhouse Rock.
And Pea, if personality and attitude have anything to do with it, you are much younger than many, many people on this bored alone!

50K: OK, the preamble, which I once knew by heart, has both "welfare" ("promote the general welfare") & "posterity" in it ("to ourselves & our posterity"). I am pretty sure "justice" is in & "government" is not; in the preamble they say "union", not government.
Go for it.
STQ 50K: Say its my 100K; I don't think the mostly-Islamic nations would have a dragon flag. Although nationhood symbolism often trumps religious. But I rule out Malaysia & Bangladesh. However, with no 50/50, & knowing you can't always get "the right" flag image of more than one country up quickly on Google, I'd STQ this one.
