The doc is from Ronkonkoma, my previous hometown.

Yet another Law and Order episode, coming right up, albeit the actual case is Long Island, not NYC itself.. The video on the link is terrific. The shyster lawyer (I think it is fair to be a little nasty to someone who argues this) looks like he could play a shyster lawyer on TV. The doc, however, looks very tired, more tired than the average surgeon.

SIngle spectacular acts don't save marriages.

The legal point as I understand it has to do with the value of the earning power of her life remaining post-divorce and not with the kidney per se. A stretch.

What I do remember is reading Louis Nizer about 40 years ago, who had IIRC won a case stretching the law on compensation for future earning power -- coming from none other place than Long Island, where IIRC a commuter train had fallen off an open bridge. Apples and oranges, of course, but that also was a stretch at that time, according to the legendary Nizer.

That is something I thought of when this came up.

I bet a few people around this new place don't even know that story.

Pretty amazing really.

And everyone is still doing well, correct?

Happy New Year!

He says that like it's a bad thing.

He says she cheated on him.

I am sure he just wants 1.5 million in his column.

Anyone who has been divorced knows about the two columns.

Well, it hasn't always been smooth sailing at times, but yes, everyone is doing well. The kidney is still going strong, despite some challenges along the way. Hard to believe it's been over 5 1/2 years now....

Thanks for asking!
