the sport for klutzes

#1 Post by ToLiveIsToFly » Wed Jan 07, 2009 12:35 am

During my life I've knocked a lot of things down by accident. Maybe I'm good at doing it on purpose too.

I haven't bowled regular in ~20 years. Had a bowling party when I turned 40 in October. Enjoyed it, bought a ball, joined a league.

After 7 weeks my average is up to 170. I like to think it's because I'm just better, but everyone tells me it's because bowling balls and lane conditions make it much easier. I don't listen to them.

Were the retractable bumpers up or down?

Forget bumpers. At my birthday party, the little ones got to use these ridiculous aiming-ramp contraptions, where they pointed the chute in a direction, got help putting the ball at the top, and pushed.

Did you buy a bag for your ball?

Don't believe what they say.

You can have a "Bite Me" or two if you'd like to use them.

I bowled regularly from Age 9 through 21. The highest I ever got my average was in the upper 160's....

Of course, I steadfastly refused to learn how to throw a hook.....

I've bowled just twice since that last league I was in in 1997. Kinda sad really since I loved bowling.....

Shame on you! You live in the bowling capital of the world! What would Mary Lou say?

I was a hard core bowler bitd before all of my arm surgeries. I miss it.
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

Not anymore. When you lose the International Bowling Hall of Fame, you can no longer call yourself the bowling capital of the world.....

This isn't about poker? You're talking about an actual activity in which you stand up and move and lift things?

You underestimate my klutziness. Plus, you can break a nail when you bowl. I'd say this is A sport for klutzes, not THE sport for klutzes. That is, until they take poker and the spelling bees off of ESPN. I guess since you have to stand up for the spelling part and actually carry your chips from table to table in poker they count as sports. Sortakinda.

Speaking of klutziness, the day I fell over the ball return is one of the fondest memories of my life.....

Not that there were any cameras present anyway. They'd have loved me on the PBA Tour though. I'd have put Pete Weber to shame in the showmanship category.....

Bob Saget has become the running joke at Stephen's school, like Billy Mays and the ShamWow guy at Mini-me's. We printed a picture of Bob to put in my niece's Christmas present and autographed it to her with her name misspelled. It cracked her up.

That "ShamWow guy" is starting to get around like Billy Mays - I saw him (SW guy) on another commercial the other day. I can't remember what it was for, but he had the same headset on.

"Graty" and "Slap Chop". "Slap your troubles away!"

Vince also says during this new commercial, "You're gonna love my nuts!" How that got past the censors, I don't know.
