Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/5/09

#28 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 7:54 am

1. The head nurse spoke up
Said leave this one alone
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood (The Destroyers are kinda like The E Street Band.... its OK to include them in your answer if you wanna get carpal tunnel, but unlike Huey Lewis & the News, it looks perfectly fine with just the main guy)

2. It's easy to deceive
It's easy to tease
But hard to get release
Eyes Without a Face - Billy Idol

3. Everytime she's dancin'
She knows what to do
Everybody wants to see
See if she can use it
Legs - ZZ Top (It's funny this was the one most people got. I honestly may have missed this one with that snippet had I been playing instead of hosting)

4. All of my life I've been waiting in the rain
I've been waiting for a feeling that never, ever came
Harden My Heart - Quarterflash

5. It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come
Under My Thumb - Rolling Stones

6. From where I stand, it looks mighty strange
How you let a woman like that treat you like small change
Bad Blood - Neil Sedaka (With Elton on backups.... I remember in the original game I didn't accept just plain Elton John for this one. I think everyone who got this one listed Sedaka this time)

7. 14 carat love you are my jewel of the Nile
When we make love diamonds are forever
Head to Toe - Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam (I believe this was came after Full Force)

8. Sitting on a park bench
Eyeing little girls with bad intent
Aqualung - Jethro Tull (The song with the greatest intro EVER)

9. I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me off in college
Wrapped Around Your Finger - The Police

10. I'm upper, upper class high society
God's gift to ballroom notoriety
Big Balls - AC/DC (This has to be the cleverest, most fun song ever written. If you have never heard it before, by all means, find it online and listen to it!!!!)

Theme? - The human body

J.J.Cale Points:

I was pretty liberal with the JJC points this first game. Pretty much everyone who attempted humorous answers on their unknown songs got at least one. Those who stood apart from the crowd:

Melo got 2 for invoking Gary Glitter on Aqualung. The Gary Glitter incident always cracks me up because I think of the Bob & Tom Show skit they did when it was discovered Glitter could face a firing squad if convicted.... they played "Rock & Roll Part 2" and substituted all the "Hey!"s with shotgun blasts. I almost pissed my pants when they played that....

mntetn got 1 JJC point because I thought it was funny that the very first respondant to the '09 LS didn't know any of the answers. I likewise gave plasticene a JJC point for the funny coincidence that I wrote down mntetn's name in my notebook instead of his when I saw that he too had a 0 point game.

Marley got the maximum 3 JJC points for nearly knocking me out of my chair by actually trying for humor points! And they were pretty clever too!

Butch's cousin from across the pond also got the maximum 3 JJC points, though I'll be harder on her as the game goes on....

Estonut got a JJC point for having the audacity to correct my spelling. It's a good thing he doesn't show up in the chat room!

mntetn 0+1
Melo 13+2

The JJC points are going to be scored separately? I wouldn't want to jeopardize my rightful place in the cellar by being too funny!

Let's try:
The one who once had me down
Under my thumb
The one who once pushed me around

Its down to me
The difference in the clothes they wear
Down to me, the change has come,
They're under my thumb

Aint it the truth babe?

Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had their day
Under my thumb
A one who has just changed their ways

Its down to me, yes it is
The way they do just what they're told
Down to me, the change has come
They're under my thumb
Ah, ah, say its alright

Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a one
Under my thumb
They're the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world

Its down to me
The way they talk when they're spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
They're under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah

Its down to me, oh yeah
The way they talk when they're spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
They're under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright

Under my thumb
Their eyes are just kept to themself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else

Its down to me, oh thats what I said
The way they talk when they're spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
They're under my thumb
Say, its alright.

Say its all...
Say its all...

Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe
Yep, sounds great!

Well, don't miss any more! Marley's already dug himself a nice "hole" in his attempt to remain in the cellar....

I was all kinds of psyched that you gave me the full 3 points for my dumbass answers. But I look at the scoring and it's not so. I should be 16+1=17, not 18+1=19.

You should have taken that point right back because I (later noticed that I) put "My" instead of "Your" in the title of the very song I corrected.

Also, the chat window coincides with my TV viewing window. I made it there once and my head hurt trying to keep up with 6 different mis-timed conversations.

Sorry your head hurts, Estonut, but that's good news! We thought we were running people off because we were boring -- turns out we're running them off because we're so enthusiastic and energized!
-- In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.
-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

It barely hurts anymore! I just remember many questions going back and forth, and IIRC, there was no way to expand the chat window to display more lines. Going back and forth to match up questions and answers was a PITA. As soon as one thing was commented on or responded to, there were 2 new ones waiting.

It's really more of the time window than anything.

No, you are 19+1=20. 8 correct answers (16) + the the 3 point theme + the JJC point, which is what I gave you...

Everybody else is getting into the act, so why shouldn't I?

But--where are the songs about arms? Am I missing something?

Ah. 3-point theme. Not 1-point theme. My problem isn't that I don't read the directions. It's that I don't retain the information for more than 5 minutes after. Song lyrics, however, stay in my head a long time.
