Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/6/09

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 7:31 am

Here is the season's first edition of Tuesday Wordplay. For those who have never played TW before, the way it works is each of the following 12 songs has a common word in each of their titles. There is no bonus for knowing the magic word (It should be obvious once you get 2 or 3 songs), but it may help you figure out some of the other songs, and of course, may even inspire a few JJC points.....

This game closes at the usual time tomorrow morning....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist.....

1. She calls out to the man on the street
he can see she's been crying
she's got blisters on the soles of her feet
she can't walk, but she's trying

2. She's a big teaser
She took me half the way there
She's a big teaser
She took me half the way there, now

3. Though I know you're the kind of boy
Who only wants to run around
I'll keep waiting, and, someday darling
You'll come to me when you want to settle down,
Oh!

4. How could it be that what you need the most
Can leave you feeling just like a ghost?
You never want to feel so sad and lost again

5. Well, you give me all your loving and your turtle doving
All your hugs and kisses and your money too
Well, you know you love me baby, until you tell me, maybe
That some day, well I'll be through

6. I remember finding out about you
Every day my mind is all around you
Looking out from my lonely room

7. You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces everytime

8. I've always listened to your point of view, my ways are cut through men
And I've always been a patient man, but my patience has reached its end

9. Darling, I never showed you
Assumed you'd always be there
I took your presence for granted
But I always cared
And I miss the love we shared

10. I'm gonna live my life.
Shining like a diamond, rolling with the dice,
Standing on the ledge, I show the wind how to fly.
When the world gets in my face,
I say

11. She was born in a handbag
love left on a doorstep
What she lacks is a backup
nothing seems to make a dent

12. Diamond rings And all those things
They never sparkle like your smile
And as for fame It's just a name
That only satisfies you for a while

It was the 80's. I was young. It happens.

At least I didn't dress the part, and I didn't pay for the tickets. I had "connections"........

I laughed at his 11 too -- if you're giving out copycat points, I think Clem and I should both get one for coming up with that particular group. :D

I will guess Bad Day and Green Day for the rest. Some honorable mentionees which I don't think I am missing would be All Day and All Of the Night - Kinks, 40 Days - Ronnie Hawkins, Day by Day - Godspell, Evry Day - Buddy Holly again, Nowadays Clancy Cant Even Sing - Buffalo Springfield , and of course Dies Irae -- Day of Wrath.
