I would be fascinated by this program.

Although nothing in my childhood home was taken to this extreme degree of thriftiness, I grew up believing my family must be poor, because there was never seemed to be enough money to buy this or do that. Going to college was never in doubt, and my brother and I both received full rides, so that worked out, but in my teens or perhaps even my freshman year at the university, I looked around and said, "Hey, wait a minute." My father, an engineer, did not like to spend money, but it turned out that he liked to invest it. The result was a nest egg for my mother that should pay for her expensive care for many years.

I use caffeinated teabags three times because I like weak tea.

I doubt that gets you the health benefits of drinking five cups of tea a day, but I'm convinced I get a healthy fluid intake.

The stuff I'm drinking now, I'll use this bag only twice -- Celestial Seasonings Country Peach Passion. The third one would be flavorless.

I as well use caf tea bags 3 times. In a restaurant. At work, its just too much trouble. And at work, I'm usually drinking Green Jasmine tea from Trader Joe's which I brought in, which is so weak anyway that it wouldn't work the 2nd or 3rd time. At home I'm generally drinking Celestial Seasonings herb tea anyway, the spice flavors especially in winter. Apple Cinnamon Spice is the current fav, followed by Bengal Spice, which is proving hard to get. Those CCs teas don't work so well for a 2nd cup, but can do so in a pinch if you're mainly just after hot liquid with a little flavor.

My Dad was famous for making his tea so weak it was mainly tea-flavored lemonade, due to always having plenty of lemon, & a ton of sugar. So I probably learned it from him. I don't use sweetener in lemoned-caf-tea anymore, though. And use diet sweetener in caf-tea with milk in it. My Dad I don't think ever drank milk in his tea in his life; I was introduced to it by a friend of British parentage in college.

I generally use them twice. I'm usually a coffee drinker, but if I have a cold or a sore throat, nothing goes down better than Red Zinger with some honey.

True story -- my little Husqvarna is all we need for trimming the trees and oakbrush around the place. If we ever go back to a wood fireplace, we'll probably get a 20-inch Stihl, but SteelersFan will do most of the wielding.

I'm feeling very thrifty today after reading the HDTV thread. Our microwave quit working Saturday night after about 15 years of faithful service. It's been my experience that when that happens, it's much faster and cheaper to buy a new one. So we trundled out to Mecca, the only place open around here that sells microwaves on Sunday, and bought one with a one-year warranty. I'm hoping that it will last 15 years also.

I bought a microwave at a yard sale 23 years ago. 6 years ago, I gave it to my brother. He's still using it. I think that explains a great deal about my brother, come to think of it...

BTW, I know plenty of women who'd be tickled to get a chainsaw as a present. Slightly OT, the ex once bought me a gun as an anniversary present. Pretty daring considering the state of our union.

My parents gave me an electric AM alarm clock radio when I went off to college in 1969. We finally had to throw it out about five years ago when the humming noise from the radio became too loud for us to sleep, even with the volume turned all the way down. Still kept good time though.

On a related note, I've only owned four cars my entire life (although I'm debating shopping for number five soon).

Hmmm, 1969? Same time I started college and wonder if we got the same Radio alarm clock? Mine is a Lloyd's solid state FM/AM. It is sitting on my credenza behind my desk. I do not listen to it, I use it for the clock.

Another item I have had for quite some time are my snowboots. During high school I worked in a family shoe store and in December of 1968 I bought myself those fine looking Hush Puppie snowboots. I still use them today and it is only 40 years later. I asked for replacements for Christmas but Santa did not hear me.
