As of this posting, nothing has yet shown up on the J! board regarding this subject (at least, as far as I can see, which isn't saying much).

Of course, the J! boardies likely already know anyhow...
First mention that I'm aware of was 12/27 at 6:24pm (EST).

I don't see any cities close by to your house. The nearest testing location is over five hours away from your house. Your mom would be very tired from driving that far each way. How would you get there?
Mr. Goongas, I would ask her to drive me. Dallas is listed as one of the J! Kids audition cities, even though it's not on the regular list, and I think she might drive that far. I might wait until I get invited before I ask her. Unless and until she says no, she might say yes. I think the Jeopardy! people would like me. Most people do, because I have a nice smile.

They don't guarantee that they will go to all of these cities, though.
How come there is no bitching about that?
Will a <grumble>® do?

And how about another <grumble>® for the lack of alternate eastern cities to NYC, which is the closest to me, but is perennially also the site that gets the most people signing up, thereby decreasing the likelihood of getting an invitation, should one pass the test?

The only likely alternatives to NYC would be Boston or Philadelphia. I believe they go to Boston every year and Philadelphia nearly every year, though apparently not this one.

They simply aren't going to do auditions in Rochester or Albany. Sorry, Kazoo. :)

Somehow, I always seem to get an invite to a NYC audition (not that it gets me on to the show)

I beleive they did both Philly and Cleveland last year. They've done Pittsburgh at least once within recent memory, but I forget exactly when.

They are promoting the Kids Week test on the show. So far, they haven't mentioned the ADULT tests yet.

Maybe they will wait until the week before the test to start promoting it.

I'm surprised they're not going to Detroit-they haven't been there since November of 2003!!!

Am I allowed to register? Or is there a mandatory wait before I can try for Jeopardy?
I'm going to wait until next year to take it for real. Since my show isn't airing until June, and I couldn't go on J! until a year later, I might as well wait for the next go-round.

Please forgive the redundant question if it has already been asked, but if I were to fail the on line test in January 09, does anyone know if I would still be able to try out for Jeopardy if their bus were to swing by in my area, let's say in a few months, or can you only try out once a year?

I don't know the exact answer to your question, but my sense has been that the number of Brain Bus opportunities has dropped considerably since the on-line test was instituted. Thus, I think your chances are better by taking the on-line test.

A reverse answer is that if you attended a Brain Bus event within the past year but failed the 10-question pre-test, you may still take the on-line test this month. If you passed the pre-test and took the 50-Q test, you must wait 18 months.

I have registered. I never thought I would say this, but I hope I get to go to Kansas City this year.

In 2001 I went to New Orleans for a WWTBAM audition, and in 2005 I went to Memphis to try out for Jeopardy! So maybe I will continue my quadrennial pattern of traveling to a city 500 miles from Dallas to try to get on a game show.

One is not allowed to take the 50 question test twice within a year. So, if you take the online test and fail (or simply aren't contacted for an in-person audition), you cannot take the 50 question test at a Brain Bus event later in the year. They might let you take the 10 question qualifying test, but then they wouldn't let you move on to the longer test.

Thank you for your reply Slam. Now, I am thinking that I want to wait for the bus. I prefer opportunities to meet people rather than sitting behind my computer. I figure they have to come to NY sometime. I met some interesting people the last time I went to their NY bus event.

OK, I signed up for the online test. Now I'm wondering if I can "back out" and (hopefully) await the Brain Bus IF it ever shows up in Michigan! It's about time for the annual e-mail to my TV station, to remind them that it's nearly 15 YEARS since J! last came to these parts. :x

Chicago -the city I signed up for-is the only one on their list that's anywhere close to where I am. I know that's a very popular spot-they go there every year. At my last audition in 2996, they had people from Indiana, Ohio. Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Canada along with local folks. The guy from Toronto that played the mock game with me was on the show this past summer.

So do I skip the test and hope the bus comes here, or do I take the test and hope I get an audition slot? I didn't get one last year.

Take and pass the test, THEN worry about getting chosen for wherever the audition is, THEN worry about how to get there.

Passing the test (step 1) is the hard part.

P.S. I have also signed up, for Boston of course. I'll worry about getting picked for an audition AFTER passing the test.

Why take the test if you won't go to the site?

Seems silly to me.

If you take the test, commit to going.

No wiggle room.

You either want it or you don't.

Kazoo, judging from your post, I get the feeling, rightly or wrongly, that you prefer the bus "experience" as well. But also judging from your post, the bus will most likely not show up in your area. So if I were you, I would do the on line test. But since I am in the NYC area and they have been in NYC more often, I think it's possible they might show up here again.

This would probably be a better question for the J! Bored, but someone here may know. The question is does J! not offer any go to LA tryouts anymore? Or is everything mostly based on the online test now?
