.. for New Year's? Did you stay at home, attend a party / get-together, take your significant other out someplace or? We were invited to a party / get-together hosted by someone in Lady G's Bible study group. So, we went and had a good time. No heavy drinking but the host had a pool table and air hockey table which we gathered round most of the evening. There were about 30 couples, each of who brought something to eat - so a buffet was on the menu. I did not know a sould but the people were generally very friendly and outgoing so I suspect we will be mingling with them again in the future.

A group of friends got together as we do every year. We play board games, eat and drink good stuff (no alcohol), watch the ball drop in Times Square (on TV) and smooch at midnight.

we had game night at our house. we set up 8 card tables with kids' board games. we had 4 people at a table. at 15 minute intervals, you switch tables, try and figure out who's ahead at each table to win the game. we had white elephant prizes for the winners. Everybody brought food.

it was a multi-generational group, so we had a blast.

we had tables of Sorry, Parcheesi, Cootie, mousetrap, Trouble, uno, Chutes and Ladders, Yahtzee.

You should have seen my 75-year-old neighbor running through the kitchen to get to the next table.

I worked!

The day started out with a festive colonoscopy at 7:30am, pigged out, huge nap, Mamma Mia on the dvd, pigged out again, then went in till 1am.

Most bitched about being scheduled on NYE, but I had a good time. A big mariachi band was performing, and hundreds of balloons dropped at midnight. The kids went out to parties, and hubby can't keep his eyes open past 9pm, so it was more fun than solitary couch potatoing.

I got all prettied up and went to a restaurant that had a DJ and food and party hats and all that stuff.

I danced all night to music that gets me out of my seat. I danced by myself when everyone else was tired.

I was tired at 1:30.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to ring in the New Yar with Mrs. SSS as I went to the Peach/Chick-fil-A Bowl. However, one of the few benefits from attending a debacle like that is the ability to depart early. After Tech was stopped close to the LSU goal early in the fourth quarter when down 38-3, I decided it was time to leave. As I'm heading to the exit ramps, LSU throws an 85 yard touchdown pass and I hear the blankety blank cannon going off for about the 100th time that night. Fortunately, when I finally got off the subway train close to my home, a Tech fan told me that the touchdown had been called back due to an LSU penalty and that the final score remained 38-3. That was about the only consolation I got out of that entire disaster. At least, I got home early enough to break open the bottle of champagne before midnight.

We use double 15's - draw 10 to 12 dominoes, depending on # of players; whoever has the highest double we haven't already started with plays it - or we draw until someone gets a useable one. Doubles have to be satisfied before anything else is played - low score wins. I think that's about it... Oh, if you don't say 'last tile' when you're down to one, and someone 'catches' you, you have to draw one.

I did what I usually do, but in a setting that helped me appreciate more everything I have.

We travelled down to the b-i-l in NC and took over his house for a family party, along with the m-i-l and the local s-i-l and crew/family. He was thrilled because he couldn't come up to us because of work (which he ended up skipping anyway because he contracted MRSA! Oh, joy...) and his young daughter loved being surrounded by her cousins. She and Erin were inseparable.

I'm just used to having three refrigerators and two ovens and four/five bathrooms and enough cabinets to house homeless families, so trying to duplicate our usual festivities (read:enough food for several armies) in a small space was tough. I realized that the reason I do most of the entertaining is because I can. We loaded up their house with groceries and whatnot before leaving, and came home with a bunch of ideas for gifts for their house for the next year.

And I will never have a dog. Ever.

Nothing so simple. It's a game called Circus Imperium - racing chariots around a figure-eight track, trying not to crash into the wall or be speared by other drivers.

We had our traditional NYE up here; after a rather late supper, we took the kids to the local bowling alley and rolled a few games of moonlight bowling. We then went home shortly after midnight (we might have stayed for one more game, but I had to be up at 5:30 AM; New Year's Day was just another day of work for us this year).

And I will say this: One advantage of being Old and Boring is that January 1 has been much easier on the body in recent years than it was back in the day. Trust me on this one...
