Re: LSU/GT
I've rarely rooted during a college football game (IU is in them so rarely, y'know) but I was definitely rooting for LSU to get stuffed when they went for it on 4th and 1 at the 1 yard line in the 4th quarter, up by four scores.
Maybe I just don't get it, but that seemed to me to be one of the great classless performances by a college football team and coach. Act like you've been there before, Les.

Yes, quite a ball game. Baseball that is. Not that either team belonged in a bowl game to begin with. Of course that is true of about 2/3 of the games.ulysses5019 wrote:You mean the Oregon State-Pitt game?Beebs52 wrote:Urk, that was some game. I guess.
I gave up on the rotten egg laid by the Bees long before the 4th quarter but if it was the second or third string in there then I don't really think it was that big a deal to let those guys have a chance to score. Even if they were up by 5 scores.mrkelley23 wrote:

Re: LSU/GT
I was at that disaster and had a bad feeling about the game ever since they announced Tech would be playing in it. When I was a Tech student, we went to the Peach Bowl and played Ole Miss and I sat through a pouring cold rain in the section next to the Mississippi band listening to Dixie play every five minutes or so. Tech got the crap pounded out of it back then too. The only things better about this game than the one thirty-five years ago are: (1) this one was warm and indoors; and (2) I was far enough away from the LSU band so I didn't have to hear them play Tiger Rag every five minutes.
The Georgia Dome is about two miles from the Tech campus. The big thing about a bowl game is the travel and the excitement of spending time in a resort-type location and seeing new things. It's not exciting to stay at home or in the same hotel where you spend the Friday before home games and go for a visit to the Georgia Aquarium which is also about two miles from the Tech campus. Tech has played in the Peach Bowl four times and been incredibly flat four times and gotten the crap kicked out of them four times. This was the worst bowl loss in Tech history. In fact, three of the worst five bowl losses in Tech history were Peach Bowls. The three biggest halftime deficits in Peach Bowl history were three of the games Tech played in (this was the worst).
If I live to be 100, I hope I never see Tech play in the Peach or Chick-fil-A or whatever they want to call this bowl game. This was a great season and the way we finished the regular season had led a number of top recruits to commit to us. I hope this game doesn't damage things too much.

I did not watch the game, but ESPN.com's play-by-play for the game says that LSU went for the 4th & Goal from the 1 about halfway through the 3rd Quarter. Still lots of game left to be played at that point. (I usually am one of those who decry poor sportsmanship, but I do not see much of a "foul" on this one.)mrkelley23 wrote:I've rarely rooted during a college football game (IU is in them so rarely, y'know) but I was definitely rooting for LSU to get stuffed when they went for it on 4th and 1 at the 1 yard line in the 4th quarter, up by four scores.

However, calling for a fake punt in the 4th quarter is poor sportsmanship.

Okay, I'll explain a little.
It was funny like it is funny to read Mikey comment on Dubya (or Sarah) doing something stoopid.
