Take Me Out To The Ballgame - Playoffs Round 1
I posted this game the morning the Bored went down, and since it was up for just a short time, I am going to stick with this game rather than throw it out. Melly managed to get her answers in before the Bored's demise, and I did get her game scored, so she does not need to play again (I may repost her answers though, so that their scoring may be seen by all).
Again, a refresher on the playoff matchups:
#1 MACRAE vs. #8 Ritterskoop
#2 Melly vs. #7 luv2jog
#3 TBone vs. #6 Eyegor
#4 Tanstaafl vs. #5 DadofTwins
I believe Skoop is the only one not to check in over here yet, but I am leaving this game open until at least all of the playoff players get a chance to play, so I'm not going to leave anyone out in the cold.
And of course, anyone who is not in the playoffs is welcome to play JFF....

Been paying attention this season? The following section will test your knowledge of the year that was in Major League Baseball. These questions are worth 2 runs each:
11. On August 5th, this pitcher became the 23rd, and possibly final pitcher to record his 300th win.
12. This player became the first since George Brett in 1979 to rack up 20 doubles, 20 triples, and 20 homers in the same season (One bonus run for naming the other player who accomplished it later in the season).
13. This team had the misfortune of having its home opener postponed by weather, as well as its second home game, and its third home game, and its fourth home game!
14. This pitcher pitched the season's first of three no hitters on April 18th against the Texas Rangers.
15. This manager took the strange opportunity of an 8 game winning streak on July 1st to announce that he was retiring due to a lack of desire for the game.
Hail To The Chief
16. There have been 37 different surnames that have been the last name of a current or former President of the United States. 10 of those surnames have been represented by a player who has played in the Major Leagues during the 2007 season. You may name one 2007 player per Presidential surname (And you must also give the player's first name) for one run each, with a total possible score of 10 runs.
The Grand Slam Question
The following question is worth 4 runs:
17. The Cleveland Indians have played home games in three different ballparks this season. They are the only three ballparks they have played home games in since they moved to Jacobs Field in 1994. In that time span, what is the only Major League team to have played home games in 4 different stadiums?
Extra Inning Tiebreaker
The following question will be used to break any ties in individual games by awarding the win to whoever is the closest to the actual number:
18. How many players were picked overall before the Dodgers took Mike Piazza in the 1988 Major League draft?
Sultan of SWAG Question
The following multiple choice question deals with some personal connection I have to baseball, and is here merely to add a bit of a luck factor to the game. It is worth 5 runs if you can guess it correctly:
Busch Stadium (the old one) officially began measuring homerun distances in 1988. I don't think they really got into it though until Mark McGwire was traded here in 1997. But anyway, one of the things they listed in last year's media guide was the 10 longest homeruns hit a Old Busch by visiting players. I was amazingly present for half of them (And they don't even list a blast I saw Javy Lopez put in the upper deck in a 1996 game that was definitely longer than some of the hoeruns they do list), including the two longest ever! Below are the four players who hit the longest of those homeruns I've seen... which one hit the longest at Busch in thier recorded history?
A. Mo Vaughn
B. Ryan Klesko
C. Pete Incaviglia
D. Wily Mo Pena

18. How many players were picked overall before the Dodgers took Mike Piazza in the 1988 Major League draft?
Piazza's a local kid so we always hear this story. He was the 62nd round but I don't know where in the round, so I'll say 1375.

Marlins?
Extra Inning Tiebreaker
The following question will be used to break any ties in individual games by awarding the win to whoever is the closest to the actual number:
18. How many players were picked overall before the Dodgers took Mike Piazza in the 1988 Major League draft?
A bunch! 1000?

Been paying attention this season? The following section will test your knowledge of the year that was in Major League Baseball. These questions are worth 2 runs each:
11. On August 5th, this pitcher became the 23rd, and possibly final pitcher to record his 300th win. - Tom Glavine
12. This player became the first since George Brett in 1979 to rack up 20 doubles, 20 triples, and 20 homers in the same season (One bonus run for naming the other player who accomplished it later in the season). - Curtis Granderson, and the second player was Jimmy Rollins. As for scoring on this one, if someone listed Rollins then Granderson, I gave 2 runs. If only Rollins was named, I gave 1 run.
13. This team had the misfortune of having its home opener postponed by weather, as well as its second home game, and its third home game, and its fourth home game! - Cleveland Indians
14. This pitcher pitched the season's first of three no hitters on April 18th against the Texas Rangers. - Mark Buehrle
15. This manager took the strange opportunity of an 8 game winning streak on July 1st to announce that he was retiring due to a lack of desire for the game. - Mike Hargrove

- San Diego Padres (Jack Murphy/Qualcomm Stadium, Monterrey Stadium in Mexico, Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, and PETCO Park... all since 1997!)
Extra Inning Tiebreaker
The following question will be used to break any ties in individual games by awarding the win to whoever is the closest to the actual number:
18. How many players were picked overall before the Dodgers took Mike Piazza in the 1988 Major League draft? - 1389 (Picked in the 62nd Round)
Pena hit a 492 ft. bomb to dead center off Matt Morris on June 29, 2005... one of the few good things Pena did while he was active on my BBBL team in 2005. The longest before that was another homer I saw, a shot by Klesko (472 ft.) on 8/29/01. The Incaviglia shot I saw on 5/25/94 (468 ft.) was the longest before that, and finished ranked tied for 4th. Coming in at #6, Mo Vaughn's final Major League hit on 4/30/03 which went 466 ft. into the upper deck. And not listed, a 455 footer from Russell Branyan on 7/21/05 that I was also there for that comes in at 8th longest.
By contrast, I've only seen 3 of the 10 longest homers by a Cardinal... all by McGwire.

Re: Scores - Take Me Out To The Ballgame - Playoffs Round 1
Not really an upset, though. I knew I was in trouble when I saw the seedings. Eyegor would've been ranked much much higher if he had played more often. His "winning percentage" was much higher than mine.littlebeast13 wrote: Just one first round upset, though l2j nearly unseated #2 ferrante.
The better player most definitely came out on top in this instance.
