Yankees sign Teixiera.

#1 Post by nitrah55 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 3:01 pm

Even if I don't get that pony for Christmas, this will make me happy.
I am about 25% sure of this.

I'm sure they are going to overpay for him.

For two reasons:

1) They are the Yankees

2) Scott Boras is his agent.

I liked Tex when he was with the Rangers, but I don't think he's worth the money that had been reported as being asked.

Ask me about that in October.

This is one of those "y'know what It's not my money and since they're charging a bazillion dollars per seat in the bleachers next year anyway they can afford it." Ergo, I am happy.

I am also happy because I am done with my finals.

So it's a happy day all around.

If I were on Happy Days, I think I'd be The Fonz.

The Yankees now have the four highest-paid players in baseball: A-Rod, Jeter, Sabathia and Teixiera. It's a good thing they have all that money. Otherwise they might go eight years without winning a World Series.

He had a pretty good year for my Angels.

8 years, $180 million. And in addition to hitting, he can actually play defense. --Bob

Not just play, but excel. He's a 2x GG winner and made some awesome diving catches this year.

well, perhaps his defense will make up a bit for the expensive fire hydrant playing shortstop.

I had misgivings about Sabathia (physical condition, better suited for the NL) and Burnett (injury-prone, prickly attitude), and was cringing at the Manny rumors (Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!), and was disappointed to see that the interest in Tex was apparently lukewarm at best...Tex was the one guy that made ABSOLUTE sense (need at the position, young bigtime bat for a declining and aging lineup, keeping him away from the Red Sox, whose lineup would have been TERRIFYING with Tex in the middle of it) and it looked like it was the one player they were NOT going after.

Thanks for the early Christmas present, Yanks!

Don't give 'em the pennant yet, though. That lineup is still old, the outfield defense is not so good, and the defense up the middle (I love Jeter, but his skills ARE in decline, although the intangibles remain off the chart) is equally not-so-good. On paper, the starting staff looks good now, but we'll see if the newcomers need an adjustment period. As always, injuries will play a major role.

The Rays won't catch anyone by surprise next season, and often a young team that has a big year will slump the next. Still, there is much talent, so they'll cause problems again.

Even though they lost out in the Tex derby, the Sox will be Formidable. Still a lot of fire in the lineup, and the pitching may STILL be better overall than the Pinstripers'.

It should be a helluva season for AL East fans.

Why did the Angels even bother to get Texeira from Atlanta late season and trade Kotchman (who is not the batman that MT is) and then ultimately whind up with nothin?
Dumb planning that usually the Dodgers are only guilty of in the off season!
Yeah I am buying my Blue Crew World Series tix for 09 now that we have re-signed Furcal! Who needs Manny, we have Andru Jones coming back after all......

So was Jim Murray: Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for US Steel.

I was also a Yankee fan when I was young. But, I evolved.

It's about time that the rest of the world got with it regards to that team in Boston.

BTW, for those who think that The Yankees only raised ticket prices, tickets for my seats in the new stadium when down from $27 to $25. My seats might be a little bit further back then they were, I won't know 'til the first pre-season game against the Cubs.
