Sunday, I am rooting for ...

#1 Post by gsabc » Tue Dec 23, 2008 8:34 am

the Jets and the Jaguars. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Does anyone else think that the Mangini-Belichick mutual detestation society could rear its ugly head here? Even if the Jets win, they need the Pats or Ravens to lose in order to get into the playoffs themselves, and the Pats will have finished their game before the Jets-Dolphins play. Call me cynical, but if the Pats win and the Ravens are winning (they also play at 4:15), I can see Mangini packing it in early and making some subtly poor play calls late in the game in order to sabotage the Pats and Belichick.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I need the Bears in the playoffs.

However, I would hope that Mangini could be more subtle than the Texans a few years ago (just how many chip shots can you force your kicker to miss until he screws up and makes one?).

Or the Keystone Kops parody that was the Bucks/Celtics game year before last.

Well.....

On Sunday, we will drive TLAF back to Wildwood and stay to watch the weekly meeting of Passaholics Anonymous or, as the local media likes to call them, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Just once I'd like a post-game press conference to start, "My name is Andy R and I am a passaholic. I just can't help myself. Even with a healthy Brian Westbrook at running back. Even when -- knowing that Hank Baskett and Kevin Curtis were out of the lineup -- I refused to put Westbrook at flanker and Correll buckhalter at running back. Even though I drafted LJ Smith when I could have had Jason Whitten."

Not likely to happen. :D

I'll be happy if Dallas misses the playoffs. Also the Patriots. More happy that the networks will lose the ratings. I am a bitter fan this year.

I'm rooting for the Lions.

Same as every week.

Sigh.

There are some teams I'm rooting against.

Let's see, of the teams that still have something to play for.

Rams @ Atlanta - meh.
Bears @ Texans- The Bears can lose. In fact I would prefer it. And I'm not a Texans fan, either.
Giants @ Vikings - I'm not rooting for the Vikings but not against them either.
Panthers @ Saints - meh, part II.
Patriots @ Bills - I'll root against the Pats almost every time
Jags @ Ravens - I'd just as soon get the Ravens out of the playoffs.
Dolphins @ Jets - I can't root against the Dolphins but I'm not rooting for the Jets either.
Cowboys @ Eagles - Cowboys loss all the way.
Broncos @ Chargers - meh, again.

So I'll be rooting against the Bears, Pats, Ravens, and Cowboys. Not unusual.
No matter where you go, there you are.

The Cardinals are the absolute worst team to make the playoffs in NFL history. Outscored 79-21 in the last two games, or even better, 59-0 at the halves.

Absolute worst? Maybe.

In 1982, the strike year, Detroit and Cleveland made the playoffs at 4-5.

Even this year. Denver or San Diego can still make the playoffs. San Diego would make it at 8-8 while Denver has been outscored by opponents 50 points over the course of the season. Arizona has only been outscored by 12 for the entire season.

In 2006, the Giants made the playoffs at 8-8. They got to 8-8 by going 2-6 in the second half of the season. And remember that this team rebounded to win the Super Bowl the following season.
No matter where you go, there you are.

All I have to say to this is:

Go Cowboys!

Beat the iggles.

Is there another one in the U.S. now, or are you visiting Carlsbad, California?

Cool. Do you have time for the SD Zoo or Wild Animal Park while you're here? I took the USS Midway tour over Labor Day weekend and that was pretty interesting, too.

Where is Jim Rome to back me? He is registered here. The reverse perfecto MUST happen after the Dolphins let us down last year....

The only thing that sucks is that Rome promised us earlier in the season it would be the Lambs who did it, and by God, they'd have pulled it off if they hadn't have caught Washington napping and drew Dallas one of the weeks they didn't have Romo and had their head up their ass.....

Nope. We are coming out for a big family Christmas trip. Will be at the Hotel del Coronado and will only have one day for an excursion. We chose LegoLand over the Zoo.

The Broncos. We are unfavored by 8.5 points.

Fear not! Shanahan will do something.

The Cardinals being so mediocre is the main reason I am not going to be horribly upset if the Panthers lose and get the 5 seed.

I am thinking about just letting Beedums make my picks.

He told me to go with Cincy last week and that worked out pretty well.

I just might pass studmuffin and move into second if I let Beedums do my thinking for me.

I just might.
