I think those are the "hottest" names as opposed to the most common. Their website even says this:
This list is based on the names receiving the most traffic on Parents.com between Jan 1 and Dec 10, 2008. Copyright © 2008 Meredith Corporation.
Traffic. Not even reports of people using those names. It could just be people looking them up.

I'll be interested to see if Jaden and Caden make the Social Security Administration lists of the most common names when it comes out later in 2009.
No matter where you go, there you are.

When I named my girls Madeline and Emma, I deliberately picked "normal" names that people could understand, but weren't too common. (Jeff and I both had common names growing up and I hated being Julie R, because there was also a Julie F.)

Madeline was actually a more popular name than Emma when I picked out names, and it was ranked in the hundreds in terms of popularity. I think that the name Emma started being more common when Rachel named her daughter Emma on Friends.

Neither of my names will ever appear on these lists.

That is fine by me.

Well, who in their right mind would name their kid "peacock"?

Wouldn't that be Pea or the other part of the word?
