I have a new toy!!!

#1 Post by MissDenise » Mon Dec 22, 2008 9:57 am

I am so excited that I wanted to tell everyone.

I have a new toy.

My Pretty lady calls it a Christmas tree. I have never seen such a wonderful thing!

It has big fat lights and pretty little glass things. And around the bottom, for me to play with, is a stuffed Bugs Bunny and red socks with white tops.

Sometimes, I don't want to play. I just sit and look at it for a long time.

I am very glad My Pretty Lady made this Christmas Tree just for me.

Have you learned how to pull them down onto the floor yet? The best way to create holiday memories that last forever, and get your butt booted out to the street.....

Try scooting anything that falls of around the floor! Sometimes it will bounce off of other things and you can jump 4 feet into the air and make your family laugh hysterically.

Also, munch on a few sprigs. I don't know if it's the real one or the fake one, but something in the tree is as good as catnip for making the world all loopy. I love this time of year!
One day, I'll get even with them all...

Friskie and Gypsy are too dignified to resort to such hijinks.

Freya the Warrior Princess, however, has "redecorated" the house with a number of ornaments. She has not quite grasped the concept that they belong on the tree, not the floor of the living room. Or the floor of the kitchen. Or the bedroom. Or the bathroom. Or..........

And we won't even discuss the attempted climbing of the tree..........

Denise, I will give you some useful advice. If you accidentally knock one of the pretty glass things on the floor and it breaks, do not -- I repeat, DO NOT -- try to eat all the broken pieces to clean up the mess because you're afraid your mom will be mad.

I'm not saying how I know this, but I know this.

Love,
Annie

So far, Yeti and Clayton have shown zero interest in the tree in favor of their toasty perches near the fireplace.

Casey gave it a few sniffs, but it dint smell like food, so she lost interest too.

The presents, OTOH -- the beautifully wrapped fruitcake is residing on the kitchen counter out of MissCaseyGrrl's reach. I think she would deem it worthy of a few exploratory chomps, to the detriment of her digestive system and the carpet.

Christmas tree discoveries, thanks to our pets.

None of our cats has ever shown an inclination towards climbing our trees. However ...

Tinsel was exchanged for silvery boas after Morris, my cat when we got married, was discovered with a shiny Mylar strand hanging out of his butt. And no, he did not start to talk with the strand retracting when I pulled on it. His excuse was that he was a Jewish cat and didn't know about Christmas trees and their decorations.

Breakable ornaments were moved to at least 30" off the ground after our eight-month-old labrador got happy nearby and swatted one to shards with her wagging tail.

Gifts were placed bows and ribbons downward after the discovery of some interestingly colored barf and poop.

If you want to find a missing cat, look in the corner behind and under the tree and next to the radiator.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

When I had cats, I used only wooden ornaments.

Cats are nothing around Christmas trees compared to an 11 month old who
crawls really fast! Just sayin'....

Caught him taking off away from me

DawsonLunatic jumps on my Christmas tree at least once a year. He has already jumped on it three times this year.

The first year we lived in Connecticut, I decorated the tree with balloons that I blew up. I had wood floors, a cat and a fifteen month old kid who liked to climb.

The cats thought so too.

Miss Denise really enjoys the tree.

I don't have the heart to tell her that it's not just for her. :D

"Her" ornament -- an orange cat on a scooter -- hangs low. And a stuffed Bugs Bunny Santa sits under the tree next to a lovely green, red and white little bootie that Boonie's mother made, as she mentioned.

There's also a brightly colored one-piece Peruvian creche from Catholic Relief Services. Denise is quite taken with it, although I always thought cats were color-blind. But she likes it.

Cats can see red at least - unlike bulls.

The cats thought so too.
But the splinters you get when they're coming out the other end aren't too fun.

Reload and Ricochet live beneath our tree. They are good and don't play with the ornaments. Ricochet will remove anything red on the tree as that is his favorite color. Everything else, they leave alone.

It must be real nice sleeping beneath a Christmas tree. They do a lot of it.

Well, that explains it. It's red and yellow with Mary in a blue robe. Very vivid.
