That would give us
A-70. BRAD DAVIS played BILLY HAYES in Midnight Express
A-55. BILLY BEVAN + B-25. ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES = BILLY HALOP
A-54. HELEN MIRREN + B-22. AIRPORT = HELEN HAYES
OK. Thanks. I would think it almost HAS to be a Sennett person, though.
IIRC from these quizzes, the person credited with throwing the first pie is Mabel Normand. So the recipient of same pie would have to be a contemporary.
Maybe Ben Turpin, with his famously crossed-eyes, would be it.

your linkup doesn't work because you are trying to link Billy (Hayes) with Billy Bevan.
The right link is Billy Hayes + Charles Gray = Billy Gray (Day the Earth Stood Still)
Mrs. SSS and I watched the original over the weekend after seeing the remake in the theater last week, and she recognized Billy Gray right off the bat from Father Knows Best....

But, yes, I realized that after I posted -- and after my conversation with plasticene but couldn't get back to it.

A-23. HELENA BONHAM CARTER played JANE GREY in ?
A-9. FREDRIC MARCH + B-17. COLOR OF NIGHT = JANE MARCH
A-16. JENNIFER JASON LEIGH + B-5. DIRTY DANCING = JENNIFER GREY
I think that we're looking for A-30. JENNIFER HUDSON here because my gut instinct now tells me that this
B-44. Inspired in part by the writings of Carlyle and Dickens, this elaborate costumer marked the last collaboration of one of the greatest director/actress teams of all time.
is ORPHANS OF THE STORM (the last Griffith/Lillian Gish collaboration) to give us...
A-16. JENNIFER JASON LEIGH played Dorothy Parker in Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle
A-49. ANNABETH GISH + B-44. ORPHANS OF THE STORM = DOROTHY GISH

A possibility
A-74. PAUL NEWMAN is Butch Cassidy in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
A-13. ALLEN JENKINS + B-20. OUR VINES HAVE TENDER GRAPES = BUTCH JENKINS
A-37 or A-63 JOANNA ??? + B-48. WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT = JOANNA CASSIDY
And I think we need Dennis Christopher for this
John Cusack played Buck Weaver in Eight Men Out.
Buck + Charlotte Henry = Buck Henry (Heaven Can Wait)
A-66. DENNIS CHRISTOPHER + Weaver = Dennis Weaver (Touch of Evil)
BECAUSE we need Dennis Quaid to be Gordon Cooper in The Right Stuff to give us
A-12. SAMUEL L. JACKSON + B-33. THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE = Gordon Jackson
A-56. GARY SINISE + B-12. WINGS = Gary Cooper

We need Joanna Gleason for Joanna Cassidy and The Bishop's Wife for Loretta Young's movie.
I'm thinking it's
A-46. ERROL FLYNN played James J. Corbett in Gentleman Jim
A-4. JOHN BELUSHI + B-15. MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING = John Corbett
A-62. MARSHA MASON + B-30. GEORGY GIRL = James Mason

This has to be
A-52. RICHARD HARRIS played OLIVER CROMWELL in Cromwell
A-1. DONNA REED + B-14. WOMEN IN LOVE = OLIVER REED
A-28. JAMES COCO + B-9. BABE = JAMES CROMWELL
Because we need A-67. JAMES COBURN who played Pat Garrett in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid
A-29. BETTY HUTTON + B-32. ON THE TOWN = Betty Garrett
A-15. MARGARET O'BRIEN + B-25. ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES = Pat O'Brien
That solidifies this one.
A-45. GEORGE ARLISS played Alexander Hamilton
A-19. ELYSE KNOX + B-34. WILSON = ALEXANDER KNOX
A-63. MARGARET RUTHERFORD (seriously, who else could it be?) + + B-21. MY LITTLE CHICKADEE = MARGARET HAMILTON

We're done???
A-5. VAN HEFLIN played Andrew Johnson
A-55 BEN TURPIN + B-49. SHANE = Ben Johnson
A-37. INGER STEVENS + B-38. Some ANDREW STEVENS movie
The most creative of the many murders in this cult classic involves a teenager being killed by means of his hearing aid.

Knowing that Andrew Stevens was in this movie enabled me to do a bit of research and discover that it's MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH. Somehow, this is one film that I missed seeing when it was first made, and it doesn't appear to have ever been released on DVD. Of course, Andrew Stevens is the type of actor that one could plausbily guess this clue as applying to virtually every movie he has ever made.mellytu74 wrote:We're done???

It didn't hurt that The Right Stuff was on AMC and I saw Dennis Quaid's smiling face telling reporters he was the best pilot he knew.
I wasn't even sure that Van Heflin played Andrew Johnson but, at the end, I figured Ben Turpin would lead to Ben Johnson in Shane.
I ALMOST called it Some Andrew Stevens movie that sss will undoubtedly know!

I was wondering if Elyse Knox was too obscure, even for Melly, but there was no way I could do a game based on biographical films and not included George Arliss. Paul Muni is the most conspicuous absence, but there are no movie actors I know of with the last names of Pasteur or Zola.
And Melly learned about Clarence Muse and SSS learned about Massacre at Central High (which, I confess, I have NOT seen but read about in a great series of books about cult movies. In fact, IAMMMMW is also included as a cult movie in the same books!)

Once upon a time, I had a crush on Mark Harmon.
Elyse Knox wasn't too tough.
AND, other people knew her, too!
Never underestimate the power of B programmers.

Re: Game #121: Have a Reel Nice Holiday
A lot of the obscure films that find their way into my puzzles are actually ones I remember seeing and thinking that it would make a good clue for an appropriate puzzle. Yet somehow I let so many years of my life slip by without seeing Massacre at Central High.franktangredi wrote: And Melly learned about Clarence Muse and SSS learned about Massacre at Central High (which, I confess, I have NOT seen but read about in a great series of books about cult movies. Sigh.
Frank will be happy to know that I am working up a general information puzzle which I should post shortly after the first of the year once everyone is back from wherever they may be.
