Houston bound airliner goes off runway at Denver airport

Continental Airlines flight 1404 slid off the runway during takeoff and caught fire. None of the passengers were seriously hurt.

well, in the end the report was of 38 injuries, two of whom were in critical condition overnight, but still not bad under the circumstances.

Denver is a good place to go veering off, or to fail to get properly airborne (which is usually what the journalistic veering off turns out to be) , or to have a late abort. Shortest runways are 12K feet (!), and the longest is 16K. And the 'ravine" area looks like a pretty nice place to go skidding to a stop, ( by comparison to the ravine in Toronto where Air France wound up). Kudos to crew and passengers for all making it out.
