But on all other points, I am totally feeling the love!!!
Hey, I never said you were getting any of my BB&B coupons. Just that I'd let you help me sort them.

Nice to see that somebody in your family has a little class. Ha!

PS Sale on Ocean Spray at Mecca! It's been some time since we've had the ritzy kind.

Well, I don't shop at Mecca, so I'll miss out on that. McCall has loved that
stuff since she was tiny! (she's 12 now). I used to keep the small cans on hand just for her.
She would ask for it all the time.

Sunflower, I am so sorry that you're going through this -- any time, but especially now. I didn't respond when you first mentioned this in the roll call thread, because I was so hoping you'd had a spat with that guy now deemed unworthy of additional description, but that it would blow over quickly with many hugs, kisses, and what-was-I-thinkings?

You most certainly are welcome at my house, although there would be a couple of drawbacks. First of all, whether you wanted to sleep in the bed or on the couch, you'd probably have to share the space with a dog (or two), even if the thought of sleeping with dogs horrifies you. They are hospitable that way. Second, just as soon as you got here, I would start dragging you around to other people's houses for various and sundry holiday events that will vary in their degree of fun. Foodwise, you would get rjistafel and Killer Cake on Christmas Eve and roast beast with Yorkshire pudding on Christmas Day, and I can introduce you to the handsome Venezuelan petroleum engineer who lives across the street. (I'm not recommending a rebound romance, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of flirtation to keep the holidays merry and bright.)

Is there any chance you can talk that guy now deemed unworthy of additional description into going ice skaping in Bryant Park on a Saturday night? I know a hocky player who goes there who might accidently vent some displaced anger in a most constructive and satisfying way.

Sunflower, if you would like to come to Stratford on Christmas day, you are welcome to join us. Myself, my fiance, and my sister, will be going to my mother's. My mom is NOT a good cook at all, but anything my sister and I bring will be delicious, I'm even using a Kay Harris recipe! It will be my sister's first Christmas with-out her husband, who recently divorced her, and my mother's husband's last Christmas, as he is dying. My mother and her husband will fight, my sister may cry a bit, Mark and I will resent having to be there in the first place, but you are welcome to join us---seriously!

Agreed, even if it's a made up holiday. (I have a friend who once got dumped by his girlfriend on Valentine's Day.)

Around Dec. 15 or so, my ex knew he was going to dump me, and he waited for Dec. 28. He got me a present and accepted mine. In many ways, he handled the breakup very badly -- after all, he didn't have me to help him, quite the opposite in fact. Waiting until Dec. 28 was one of the things he did right, and making it as quick and clean as he could. I described it at the time as an earthquake because that's how I felt -- in complete upheaval. It really was more like a very sharp knife through a string.

Anyway, I pretty much know how you feel, Sunflower, and will happily adopt you for the holidays, at least in spirit. Or for reals, if you can make the trip to Colorado, although in that case, I'd probably go with Fan. I can't match that fluffy tapioca . . .

Ooh! I'll be up there this weekend to pick you up, and we'll spend the next two weeks cruising the country practicing for The Amazing Race! Heck with those holiday gatherings! They're boring anyway!

Oh, I hope my Yugo will make it to Connecticut....

Sunflower, I would say that if you want to stay in CT, that Stratford is a terrific location for Christmas. I have met HSoB and Mark and they are delightful.

I wish I could invite you, but I am not so sure how much fun the family dynamics at my house would be. Dad and Step-Mom are very Greenwich. Very. Brother and S-i-law, well Brother is fine, S-i-l tries to find ways to annoy me. And succeeds.

I am trying to have a better attitude about Christmas than Thanksgiving, but it will be hard.

Now if you are willing to travel out of state, I am sure Kay would be the perfect hostess, Fanny could explain things that would make anyone blush and SC and her perfectly well behaved four legged roomies would be a delight.

Might I also suggest volunteering for the day?

And I think this situation just sucks.

Christie - that is an awesome idea (volunteering). I did that a few years ago on Thanksgiving and it was such a good experience. Now I will spend the rest of my snowed-in Friday trying to find somewhere!! Thank you!! :D

It puts the feelings of 'my life sucks right now' into a different kind of perspective.

Not to minimize the suckitude of the current dumpage.

Volunteering will take your mind off your troubles. As I mentioned earlier, our Red Lobster
always does a turkey dinner for law enforcement and fireman working on Christmas day. The businesses
donate the food and ordinary people (like me!) help prepare it.

I am very sorry you're alone and I would do anything if I could get you here to spend it with us.
Otherwise, I think you'll make a wonderful volunteer.

I have a feeling if Clem gets anywhere close to the ex-boyfriend, he'll take care of him for you in short order!

Your story reminds me of a friend of mine and her son. She hated cooking for Thanksgiving (actually, she hated cooking in general) and she and her son would even go to KFC if she didn't cook a turkey. Well, her son had gone to his girlfriend's family's house for Thanksgiving and when they passed around the homemade cranberry sauce he asked what is was. When he was informed that it was cranberry sauce he said that that was impossible. He said that cranberry sauce was round and had ridges. His girlfriend's family had a good laugh at this and when he told his mother the story she was mortified.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

I would have invited you here but Lady G tends to get a bit uptight having another female (not of the family) around, if you know what I mean. ;)

I would invite you to our Christmas. I am cooking and it will be just the four of us plus Uncle Marc.

Uncle Marc is single and is turning 36 on Tuesday. He is a very good uncle and like his brother, Jeff, is a doctor-professor.

Ex-boyfriend is in for a world of hurt if we all get near him.

We need lots of cans of cranberry to go alongside the homemade. Mini-me will sometimes attempt to eat a whole can by himself. I prefer the homemade, but I won't make it, so if s-i-l doesn't come through, we get canned. And sometimes the store brand.

My Christmas Day is at the in-laws. I get Christmas Eve. I will gladly trade the day with the in-laws for a day of solitude, but the kids would be bummed, so I suck it up and go.........
