Please send good vibes for new job

#1 Post by cindy.wellman » Fri Dec 19, 2008 7:34 am

At the beginning of October, after quite a few heated meetings, the board of directors fired the management (1 person), and 4 employees of a local utility company. Eric's Aunt Melba called to tell me she had put my name in for consideration for employment. (!!) One of the directors had lived next door to her for many years, and they are still good friends with him. Melba then called to tell me to hurry and email my resume to that director and plan to attend the next meeting scheduled that evening. I attended, and along with one of the former employees, was hired immediately. The meeting was at 4 pm, I was notified at 11 pm, and was at work the next day at 8 am! LOL By my own choice, I haven't worked since leaving FAA in AK in 2004.

The management is now under investigation by the Attorney General. Everything was seized by the AG immediately following the firing and sent off to various forensic labs etc. We moved the office to a new location, bought new office furnishings, etc. for the office and gradually received the computer system back from the AG.

I am considered temporary at this point, but we are in the hiring process for the management position. Since I've been doing all of the management functions, I've applied. We had 160+ applicants, and I'm in the top 7!! I'm so excited. I had my interview last night, and it went very well.

So, if you have a moment, please send some good vibes my way. I'm about 99% certain that even if I don't get the management position, I'll be brought on as a permanent employee. I'm ok with not being the manager too. LOL I'm pretty tired after the last 2 months, so being able to hire the additional staff will be a blessing. There are still 2 of us doing the job of 4. The board of directors have been helping as much as possible, but they have lives away from the district office.

Thanks for listening. :)

Edited to add that after last night's interview, I'm now in the top 3, as they have eliminated the others. :)

Good luck, Cindy!

That's got to be a challenging job, being thrown into it when all of the old staff had been fired (and are under investigation) and you can't even access any of the records that have been seized for evidence!

Good luck with the job! But now you have me curious. What is a sewer district and what does its commission do? Also, what did the former employees allegedly do that the AG is investigating?
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

YAY! Thanks everyone. The good wishes mean a lot and are helping to boost my confidence. I really appreciate the words that everyone has said. Thank you.

GS- Let's see.......

This sewer district is considered a quasi-legal municipality. Some highlights:

We have the sewer lines and we bill our patrons for their sewer service.
We issue new permits to connect to existing lines.
We pay the city of ID Falls for treatment, as we do not have a treatment facility.
We have approximately 5,500 connections.
We are on the NE edge of ID Falls and have quite a lot of area for expansion, which means we will be increasing the lines as the areas are developed.

A lot of what the previous management is in trouble for I'm not at liberty to say at this point. The involvement of the AG is completely justified though. Money, sex and rock-and-roll are the main naughty things. OK, the rock-and-roll is the good part.

The Board of Directors are just there to make sure things are kibosh. They meet monthly, or more frequently if needed, to hear status reports and to act as a decision making group for the district. Unfortunately, at least 3 of the 5 members were left in the dark most of the time in the past, so decisions were made based on faulty information.

I was a saddened on 12/7 when we made the headline story (again) above the fold at the Post Register in ID Falls. It saddened me because the tribute to the bombing of Pearl Harbor was below the fold.

I'm very excited to be able to spend some time decorating in the near future. HK pink makes even the sewer look great!

Sending you good vibes and I hope you get the position. Wow the board goes thru a long interview process for those positions.
I never thought that Idaho would have shenanigans like what is happening with your sewer board like they have here in Illinois but I bet your corruption is small potatoes compared to Chicago's.

Umm. I know ... that was such a funny joke.

Great news! I got the job. I'm so excited I can't sleep. LOL

There are a lot of great things about the job including the people, the pay/benefits and the room for growth. In addition to all of that, I was informed that part of my benefits include that fact that my college will be paid for me. I've waited a long time to finish what I only briefly started. I'm very, very happy!

I have no doubt that any and all vibes sent my way after my original request did the trick. Thank you very much for your thoughts. :)
