Aloha from Hawaii

#1 Post by starfish1113 » Sat Dec 13, 2008 11:30 pm

I'm writing from the Marriott in Waikiki. Unfortunately, it's a business trip and, while we have the weekend free, the weather was butt-ugly today. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a little better. I'm looking forward to the NFL at 8 am!

Why am I thinking that an ugly weather day in Waikiki is better than an average one in the wintry north? 8)

No kidding! I'm just happy to see you have power and weren't blacked out by the ice!

You can bask all you want.

I need to take LBN down to the shop tomorrow morning to get the taillight fixed, and I'll have to walk home unless I want to sit down there all day. It's only 3 blocks to the shop, but walking in slush and ice isn't my idea of a lovely jaunt.....

Thanks, mini! Like I said on Friday, it was all snow up here, which is a lot easier to handle than ice. Especially when you decide to stay home and not drive through it at all!

Have we heard from Pea at all in the last couple days? Is she home now or traveling?

No idea. That's why I was looking out for your name and hers. And Eyegor's.

I don't particularly like snow, but ice gives me the willies. I hated the first storm of the year in college. You'd see so many students with casts and crutches and knew they came from my neck of the woods. We had an ice storm when I lived in my old house and we were surrounded by pine trees. We just watched them drop branches all day long. Luckily, we only lost a section of the wooden fence.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I am totally jealous.

I just got done shoveling our 5-6 inches of snow and the temp is only -15. We are still suppose to get 2-3 more inches of snow and the low tonight will be a balmy -26. High tomorrow, a real easy to deal with -14. Wind chills are in the -40's. And not a whole lot better until Wednesday or Thursday.

Aloha!

Yes, I am jealous.

But the weather is really bad.

My Mom has 2 1/2 ft of water in her living room. It sucks big time.

Thinking happy dry thoughts for Makaha and Waikiki.

Oh, and if you run into any trouble, I know the Asst. Chief of Police on the island. She is the only female asst. chief so that narrows it down.

LOL! I'll keep that in mind! The two colleagues I'm out here are much more apt to run into - uh - troubles than I am, but I'll let them know I have an "in"!

BTW, beautfiul day so far today, but I'll be watching football til mid-afternoon before hitting the beach. I'm sure the rain will come back then!

Hawaii!

How fun!

I am planning a 'girl trip' with my mom to cruise the islands.

It is billed as a 'girl trip', when in reality it is designed to give my dad a break from being the one responsible for her each and every day.

I figure a cruise is an easier place to take care of her than a timeshare.

I thin my s-i-l will be coming as well, so we can take shifts.

I had to postpone my trip home, which was a good idea to stay with my folks in the days after the doctors appointments and lawyer appointment and all. By the time I got home, all was well here.

Pea?

When are you going?

Have you been there before?

Need any advice?

We have not chosen a month - my mom's sliding into the abyss of alzheimers has me thinking sooner than later - maybe in the summer - not sure.

I have been to Hawaii (the 'normal 4'), never on a cruise.

I will be asking for advice once we get going on booking it.

It's all YOUR fault! :P

I suppose you'll come up with some BS explanation on how the streak still stands, Mr. Ripken.......
