5th Grader thread
TPTB have fooled with the schedule and moved an episode of 5th Grader to Thursday, this week. And today it's the rabbi vs. the priest...

Re: 5th Grader thread
So, the rabbi was up first...
The Reverend is up next. I may have been wrong about calling him a priest, since he has an adult daughter. That daughter just happens to be a former contestant on the show, who got all the way up to the $1 million question (about the first man to break the sound barrier) and got it wrong. We see clips of the Rev. rooting his daughter on from the audience.
Spoiler
And he was doing great, breezing along through the answers--and infuriating Jeff Foxworthy because he locked in his answers before Jeff could drag things out about his lifelines and so forth--until he got to the $300K question about U.S. History. The Gadsden Purchase of 1853 acquired land from Mexico that is now part of what two US states?
The rabbi finally decides to use one of his lifelines--this time locking in his decision to peek before Jeff can warn him that using the peek forces him to answer the question and eliminates his opportunity to walk away with $175K. The peek reveals that Jenna's answer is Florida and Georgia. The rabbi knows that's not right; he's thinking of the California Gold Rush and goes with California and Nevada as his answer and he falls to $25K, just like the other two graduates of Yale who have been on the show before him.

After that, he barely has time to start his stack, so he'll return next Thursday.

I can't believe that you're waiting for someone to tell you that they can't believe you're still watching this show.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!
That'll be $10, please.

It's a slow morning!Rexer25 wrote:I can't believe that you're waiting for someone to tell you that they can't believe you're still watching this show.
And while we got all snow from the storm up there, there's been a nasty band of icing to our southeast. I wouldn't be surprised if Pea is without power, this morning.
Meanwhile, I was scheduled to take next Friday as a vacation day (and the rest of the month, after that), so I've decided to stay home today and work next Friday, instead. Dealing with the winter is a heck of a lot easier if you just don't fight it for the few days when it's really bad.

I believe the Reverend is an Episcopal priest (they can marry).
And how ironic that the Rabbi, who was a history major at Yale, lost on a history question.

There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

Heads up...
According to my TV, a new 5th Grader comes on again tonight. My info doesn't say if it's the continuation from last night or a different contestant altogether. Our "TV guide" has been known to be wrong from time to time!marleysGh0st wrote:Spoiler

My TV listings show that, too. I suspect tonight's show might be a repeat.mom2five wrote:Heads up...According to my TV, a new 5th Grader comes on again tonight. It might be, but my DVR is set up to only record new episodes, and it is showing as "new" so it will record.
I thought I saw during last night's show a promo for a blonde, female contestant and last season's "class o' 5th graders", but I zoomed through the whole show and I deleted it afterwards, so I can't be sure. Maybe it's some left over "gem" from last season and they're just showing it tonight to fill space.

I haven't seen the show in a while, since they gave KJ $500K for barely straining a few brain cells.MarleysGh0st wrote:TPTB have fooled with the schedule and moved an episode of 5th Grader to Thursday, this week. And today it's the rabbi vs. the priest...
What do you mean by "rabbi vs. priest?" That implies some sort of competition. Or did you mean that they just happened to be on the same show?

Re: 5th Grader thread
According to TheFutonCritic, it is not a repeat. From the production number (in the 200s), it does appear to be a moldy unaired show . Same for next Friday's show. They are generally pretty accurate.

It is indeed a new episode (at least, one I've never seen) taped with last year's class.mom2five wrote:It might be, but my DVR is set up to only record new episodes, and it is showing as "new" so it will record.

And I'm glad I caught the first few minutes of it, at least.

Re: 5th Grader thread
That's right. It's still just one contestant at a time, but they like packaging the shows with certain themes and yesterday they had these two contestants on the same show for the Hanukkah/Christmas theme. And, in another departure from tradition, the second contestant sat in the audience watching as the first one played. Other episodes may be blended together with contestants who didn't even tape on the same day. (That's why the 5th Graders always wear the same outfits, so that they can cut and paste segments at will.)TheConfessor wrote:I haven't seen the show in a while, since they gave KJ $500K for barely straining a few brain cells.MarleysGh0st wrote:TPTB have fooled with the schedule and moved an episode of 5th Grader to Thursday, this week. Today's theme (with last year's class) was the "Mystery Desk"--they had a sixth desk set up with the five of the regular class. They filled that desk with a surprise person to help each contestant.
