What are your 5 favorite Christmas records?
Taking nelly's suggestion, I am turning this into a thread all its own.
My 5 faves:
White Christmas - The Drifters
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings - Barenaked Ladies w/Sarah McLaughlin
In the Bleak Midwinter - Sarah McLaughlin
Mele Kelikimaka - Bette Midler
A Baby Just Like You - John Denver
I also have a few least favorite, too:
Mistletoe and Holly - Frank Sinatra (The opening lyric: "Oh by gosh by golly/It's time for mistletoe and holly" Does anyone believe Sinatra ever said "By gosh, by golly" in real life?)
Mele Kelikimaka - Bing Crosby (Midler camped up the song, and made it so bad, it's good. Crosby's is just bad.)

I am about 25% sure of this.

Bringing my reply over here, too.
I agree with the two Sarah McLaughlin songs. Not sure I've ever heard the other three.
I'll put in Carol of the Bells - Mannheim Steamroller. Can't come up with two other big favorites of recent vintage. There's always Alvin's Christmas on the humor side, or Stan Freberg's Green Christmas (not really a song), and Allan Sherman's Twelve Days of Christmas.
Least favorite is easy. Madonna's "Santa Baby". And anyone voting for "Dominic the Donkey" on their favorites list gets negative votes for their other four choices, and will be ignored for the duration of this poll. Just my opinion. YMMV.

I'm not much into traditional Christmas fare.
My fave five:
1. "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer", Elmo and Patsy
2. "All I Want for Christmas Is You", Mariah Carey
3. "The 12 Pains of Christmas", Bob Rivers (really, I could insert any Bob Rivers song here)
4. "Step into Christmas", Elton John
5. "Wonderful Christmastime", Paul McCartney

Re: What are your 5 favorite Christmas records?
My favorite Christmas songs: Do They Know It's Christmas (Feed The World)---Band Aid, and The Little Drummer Boy (even though David Bowie, my all-time favorite musician recorded a version with Bing Crosby, the Johnny Cash version is actually my favorite). And, to anyone who might remember the night in chat when I was asking for help in identifying a particular Christmas song, thanks to the other song thread, I now know it is Mary's Boy Child.

Re: What are your 5 favorite Christmas records?
Time to go on the record:
I like Dominick the Donkey. I also prefer Madonna's Santa Baby.
I like Elvis's Santa Claus is Back in Town. And that Billy Squier song Christmas is a Time to Say I Love You that seems to drive some people to distraction.
But the biggest sacrilege of all:
I absolutely, positively loathe TSO. The Christmas Attic makes me cringe, and kinda laugh. My b-i-l- left it here, and he swears the TSO concert is the greatest he's ever attended, and my husband had taken him to U2, so I know he hasn't only seen Jessica Simpson or Bucky Covington, who are two of his wife's favorites. I do not know why I have such a knee-jerk aversion to them, but I do.
I doubt this surprises anyone here, since I have seriously questionable taste, but there it is.

Re: What are your 5 favorite Christmas records?
1. Gesu Bambino -Luciano Pavarotti
2. Carol of the Bells -George Winston. I know I'm in the minority on TSO and Steamroller, but I find them way overproduced, and Winston's solo piano version is perfect for this song.
3. The Pretty Little Dolly - Mona Abboud. Just hysterically funny. You can hear this on YouTube, but only as other people lipsync it.
4. White Christmas - Bing Crosby. Call me sentimental.
5. The 12 Pains of Christmas - Bob Rivers. Or just mental.
Runners-up: canon in D - George Winston; Pie Jesu - Luciano Pavarotti; The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole; Happy Christmas (War is Over) - john Lennon; Do You Hear What I Hear - Perry Como.

Its begining to look a lot like Christmas - Johnny Mathis
Walking in a Winter Wonderland - Mitch Miller
The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
Tennesee Christmas - Alabama
Believe - Josh Grobin
Lots more I love, some if I think about it would bump some of the above.
Least favorites?
I'm not sure I can name any. I like Christmas music. If I currently feel I have a least favorite it is only because it has been overplayed. By next November, I'll love it again.

I only own one Christmas CD, so that would have to be my favorite by far (and there are quite a few songs on it that I like better than the title song: The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole.

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas music but here are the ones I enjoy in no particular order:
Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano
Do They Know Its Christmas? - Band Aid
Little Drummer Boy - pretty much anyone
12 Days of Christmas - Bob and Doug McKenzie version only
Christmas Don't Be Late - Alvin and the Chipmunks

Re: What are your 5 favorite Christmas records?
I don't love Christmas music.
There are two Christmas albums that I usually play when the girls and I put up the tree. I didn't play them this year because Emma did the tree by herself. Anyway, the two albums are Phil Spector's Christmas album, I just the whole 1960's Wall of Sound Music. I also listen to the Beach Boys Christmas Album, mostly because my Dad did when I was growing up.
As for songs, I love Madonna's version of Santa Baby and John Lennon's Happy Christmas. I used to like Carol of the Bells but whenever I hear it I think of Ding Fries Are Done.

Re: What are your 5 favorite Christmas records?
I love Christmas music-maybe it's because I was born in December, or because I went to Catholic school.
It's hard to pick out five favorites, but here goes:
1. O Holy Night (Josh Groban does a good version-why he didn't include it on his Christmas CD is beyond me.)
2. Silent Night
3. O Come All Ye Faifthul
4. White Christmas (the original Bing Crosby version)
5. Christmas Eve Sarajevo-TSO
Now for some I DON'T like-
1. Last Christmas-Wham
2. The Christmas Shoes (too depressing!!!)
I can't think of any others right now.

Re: What are your 5 favorite Christmas records?
Best ever -
O Holy Night - Johnny Mathis - best hymn. I discovered this in grade school when we used to prepare for weeks to do a Christmas concert in church. This was directed through school by our music teacher. For about 3 years we were only allowed to sing the chorus and I remember being thrilled to get to grade 6 when we got to sing the whole thing.
Happy Christmas - John Lennon - best song
Christmas Vacation Theme - Darlene Love
White Christmas - Bing
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Andy Williams

Mary's Boy Child, by Harry Belafonte
Sleigh Ride, by Leroy Anderson
We Need a Little Christmas, from the original cast album of Mame
