I'd suggest that you make an announcement in advance. You'll probably get a substantial audience. You might even try to come up with a Fastest Finger question, and award the Hot Seat to the first correct answer. --Bob
Am I ever glad I didn't have to go through that again.

Yes, mass would help. O is 16 times the mass of H so it has a pretty big influence on the answer.

Just remember, you are dealing with people who are obsessed with trivia. They often lead the nation on the Tues. night triva games.

Thank you for starting this thread! I hope it continues.

By mass, I guess I should have said that.

Sorry I missed this game, Shade. I'm not usually part of the Night Crew.

Actually, we haven't had much of a Night Crew for a long time. Seeing all these new messages when I log in is a refreshing surprise!

If you're talking about making this a sticky thread, I'd suggest each "episode" be given its own thread, instead, for easier reading. This one has already become six pages long!

You just can't admit you're wrong, can you?
Nope.

At any rate, the question should have read: "One of his teachers" instead of implying he was the only one.[/quote from Bob J]

[This next part is me; I have not figured out how to 'quote' someone and then respond so that you can tell what is the 'quote' and what is the response]

I have several biographies of Beethoven, and they all make mention of Salieri: they describe him as being very willing to help new/rising composers.

The original question on WWTBAM was more tricky: it was Mike Munz's $1,000,000 question, and it did not ask who was Beethoven's teacher, but rather, stated that 'Beethoven was a student of which of the following composers?' and that is tricky because it is possible to be a 'student' of someone who is not actually your teacher-- I could be a 'student' of Beethoven, even though he died over a hundred years before I was born. When I saw that question, one of the thoughts that came to mind was that, on his deathbed, Beethoven spent his time reading Handel's scores, and he did 'study' them intensely (he believed that Handel was the greatest composer of all), and if I had been given that question I would have asked for clarification, did they mean 'student' in the sense of a 'student/teacher relationship' or did they mean 'student' in the sense of one who studies someone else's work.

That's a good idea, I will make an annoucment in advance. I should have another game ready by Saturday but I can't make any promises yet. And I fastest finger question might also be good, I just didn't want to alientate contestants who didn't like FFF

Yeah, I was "sticky" right. Another thread for each game is certaintly do-able

"Just remember, you are dealing with people who are obsessed with trivia. They often lead the nation on the Tues. night triva games.

I'll keep that in mind

That would be pretty neat. It would basically be a Bored version of WWTBAM Play It!

Dang. I miss Play It. I guess it's on the brain 'cause a version of the Triton question was in my husband's Play It! stack once...I got it from the audience, he blew it from the Hot Seat, I was the audience leader...and time ran out. Rarely have I been so bitter at getting a trivia question right. ;)

You weren't bitter about getting it right, you were bitter that TPTB blew the horn!

I miss Play It, too. And I'm still bitter that I didn't recognize that The Mamas & The Papas didn't like Monday. I could have gotten my nephew into the Hot Seat, if I had.

Now, if they had phrased the answer as "Monday, Monday" instead of just "Monday", I wouldn't have had that brain freeze...

Oh, no, I was actually bitter that I got it right. ;) Had I gotten it wrong, I wouldn't have cared, but missing an opportunity to kick my spouse out of the Hot Seat? After he needled me all day about not getting to the big chair? Oh, he deserved it. I suppose winning the cruise shut him up though. ;)

Doing games of WWTBAM on this forum sounds like a great idea. I can't wait for Shade's next stack of questions.

I also wouldn't mind doing a few stacks of questions for anybody in the Day Crew who wants to participate. I've still got some leftovers from my last QoD.

I just finished writing the questions for my new Who Wants to Be A Millionaire game.

I will post the Fastest Finger Question, Friday at 9:30pm EST 10/12

So if you want to win 1 Million virtual dollars, but more importantly, to challenge yourself to a fun game of WWTBAM, then be there. (if everyone has a problem with that time, I'd be perfeclty willing to change it)

At 9:30pm I will make a new thread, so keep your eyes open for it.

This time I was more determined to make challenging questions because TheCalvinator24 made short work of my questions and won 1 million dollars, He is the John Carpenter (or Kevin Smith depedending on how you look at it) of my game :)

Hi!

Hi there, I'm Cindy it is good to meet you!

I'm one of the ones who is fighting the whole Orange message thing. I'm guessing that you will have a good amount of people interested in playing, but as a suggestion, you might want to post a message (like the one above) in a new thread so that everyone can see the new date/time.

I've been reading your messages so far and am happy to see that someone is continuing on the WWTBAM stack tradition! Thank you for that, because I've always been a big fan (usually from the sidelines) of these games.

Thanks!

Cindy
