8 Years Ago Today...

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Dec 11, 2008 7:44 am

Was the start of the infamous Audition Callback Week, the week when PTBAM made the calls to fill 130 January slots from a pool of just under 800 audition passers. I was almost ready to say there were quite a few BB's who had happy memories of that week, but then I started thinking about it and realized that unless I'm missing someone, there are only 3 of us left around who got the call that week..... me, Confessor and Wellman. That kinda surprised me.....

There are others who have registered over here, but never post (skypilate, macsdaddy, dr amp)....

But most have moved on or become lost along the way (samcat, aussie, AttyLP, ed776, John9826, Gene McKenna, and countless other drivebys from the time)......

There are still quite a few snubees from those first 7 auditions hanging around, but I won't even try to name them all.....

Oh well, just another bitersweet Bored history flashback from me. Carry on....

To be accurate, Calvinator got a call that week too, but not from the audition series.....

I'm sure he will mention it....

That was when Sir G brought his hamster to the audition, wasn't it?

No, that was San Diego in March 2001....

But that was the series when the hamster squashing question was supposedly asked a number of times....

Which session were you in LB? I was in the 7:00 p.m. session, sitting next to Pete Booker, who posted here under a couple different names (instlouis and bigjabronie, I think). We both got on the show and got bad questions, and later returned to the hot seat. The actual auditions were the Saturday before the 2000 election. There were lots of signs in town for the Ashcroft vs. Carnahan race.

Good ole Mr. Matt Damon look-a-like Pete.

I was trying to recall his name a few weeks back when you were naming all the big winners from Prime Time. Pete, IIRC, was at $250,000, got the bad question and fell back to whatever the amount was at that time. He was later brought back on for another $500,000 question and then walked. I think we took away $250,000, or he might have walked on the $250,000 and took home $125,000. But I'm pretty sure he got $250,000.

I could look at the RoF chart to verify, but I'm slacking this morning.....

He was in my set in Birmingham - most notable in that he brought a tiny puppy that he had just purchased earlier that day. We all figured that the pup would make him a shoe-in, but I think he got in from a later audition, not this first set.

I, of course, am a snubbie. It's been a while, but I try to keep in touch with Samcat and I still remain in contact with Amy Turner - both who got called from that first set of auditions.

Does someone have a record of when the auditions occurred? I auditioned in Philly (and met a bunch of folks briefly in the restaurant next door), DC, and Baltimore (all unsuccessfully, of course), but can't remember exactly when all that happened.

Thanks.

St. Louis was November 4, 2000. There were seven cities in that initial round of auditions in the fall of 2000. I don't know the other dates and locations, but they should be findable without too much trouble. Try the GC yahoo board, if you can access that.

Those auditions you mentioned all occured in 2001. Philly was March 2001, Baltimore later on in the summer (DC isn't ringing a bell). I believe there is a list of the Spring 2001 cities I saved somewhere (Including all the cities they never got to when they promptly switched to stealth mode after a few months)....

The 2000 series I mentioned above were held in 7 cities.... Detroit & Cleveland (10/28), St. Louis (11/4), New York (11/11 or maybe 12), Sacramento & Seattle (11/19) and Birmingham (12/2)....

The 8th Anniversary of my Round 2 falls on this Sunday.

The 8th Anniversary of my taping will be the following Saturday.

I missed announcing the 8th anniversary of the fateful successful Round 1.

Also, my eighth anniversary on the Bored was on the 6th (IIRC).

Yep.

I met beast and BiT before I was a Bored denizen.

Spoke quite a bit with BiT that morning.

I made it to the audition with 4 minutes to spare.

Ah, the good old days! A quick road to the Hot Seat with no AP intervention.

Now, we just hear the occasional "This contestant was in the audience a couple weeks ago (just like you've been, lots of times) and now s/he's in the Hot Seat (just like you're not)!" :|

Boston's one and only audition was something like September 19, 2001, give or take a day or two. It was originally scheduled for 9/12. Needless to say, it was postponed.

I wouldn't say we really met. I remember you from the audition, and I'm sure you saw me.

BiT didn't even make contact with me until just a couple minutes before they started doing the interviews. He was in the first group taken back. I was in the very last.....
