And yet, no one has answered the really important question: Is the hair real?!?!?

Nightline described him as "boyish looking". To me, that translates to "Real hair, bad haircut".
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

I think it was Jon Stewart who said that Gov Blah's bangs covered a "For Sale" sign.

Enough of my money ends up in Chicago anyway. Maybe they can send him to some joint in Vermont. That's my black hole state......

My first act as governor of Illinois will be to declare war on the state of Iowa. Don't really have any practical use for it, but it's a strategic piece in my effort to conquer Nebraska.....

I think the governor and Donald Trump both get their haircut at the same place.

Our head maintenance guy, who is really good at coming up with absolutely hilarious stuff right out of the blue said something last night that caused the guy sitting across the table from me, who had just taken a big drink of Mountain Dew, to spew it out of just about every facial orafice. Thankfully, he had managed to control himself enough to at least turn to the side so I didn't get an unneccesary soft drink shower, but the sight of it cracked me up more than what the other guy said that started it......

It did make me think of you too..... :P

but the interesting this is that he's writing a sequel to Presumed Innocent

Heaven help us, my co-workers and I were laughing about this at lunch, comparing Colorado to Illinois.

The biggest gubernatorial political scandal we could think of for Colorado since Gov. Ritter took office was his son having his twenty-first birthday party at the governor's mansion. No drugs, no sex, some drinking, all by folkses older than 21, and none of the partiers drove home drunk . . . the biggest objection seems to have come from history types who were worried about the mansion's antiques, all of which survived intact.

There but for the grace of God, or something . . .

I am originally from Louisiana, and that state is right up there with Illinois. The low point came in 1991, when the race for governor came down to a runoff between Edwin Edwards and David Duke. Edwards was the stereotype of a corrupt, amoral politician, and you know what Duke was. The previous governor had been elected as a reformer, but the voters got bored with him and wanted to be entertained again. If I had not already left that state to find a job, I would have left then.

Has any other state ever had an election for governor in which BOTH candidates would later serve time in prison?

Good grief!

One of my co-workers laughingly quoted an Illinois official saying that they were #1 in corruption or trying for it. I tried to find it by googling and got 940 hits!

I read through a couple of them. This one seems to figure in most of the hits:

Does kusch know if they have internet in the Minot County Jail. I'd hate for him to lose ground in the weekly rankings.

I was rummaging through my stuff looking for Christmas-appropriate quotes and cartoons for the office, and found these quotes which seemed appropriate here.

"If there's anything a public servant hates to do it's something for the public" - Kin Hubbard

"In science, it's the cream that rises to the top. In politics, it's the scum. To be a successful politician, you have to be good at four things: lying, cheating, stealing and conniving. ... Of the four, conniving with the bureaucrats is the most important, because it's the bureaucrats, not the politicians, who really run things. Nobody elects them, nobody can outlast them, and getting one fired is like pulling the back teeth out of an elephant."
Joseph Delaney, from "Business As Usual, During Altercations", Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact, January 1997

Hypothetical but related question (not a slam on Obama) and don't see it addressed:

What is the procedure if, between the election and the inaugeration (sp?), the President-elect cannot assume office, i.e., death, illness, indicted, etc.?

Does the VP-elect automatically move up or does he/she have to be sworn in as VP, then assume the Presidency?

Any Constitutional scholars out there?

Elected positions have their prices too.

Maybe I can appoint you Soccer Czar. That would only put you back about two grand.....
