RIP Robert Prosky

77. Complications from a heart procedure.

A great character actor IMO. Played on "Hill Street Blues" but my favorite role of his was as the evil owner of the New York Knights in "The Natural".

I also remember him as Kirstie Alley's dad on "Cheers" and Kirstie Alley's limo driver on "Veronica's Closet".

Great guy.

Wasn't he the voice and embodiment of Darth Vader?

I don't think so. I know James Earl Jones did the voice of DV.

The actor who played the "body" of Darth Vader was David Prowse, who is a 6'6" bodybuilder. He spoke the lines during filming but they were overdubbed later by James Earl Jones. Another actor was used in the scene where Vader's face was revealed.

I saw Prosky in a scene last week, when a student showed a clip from Dead Man Walking. He was terrific in that.

He played the father of Nicole Kidman's character in Far and Away.

I thought he was absolutely brilliant in Hill Street Blues. Michael Conrad was hugely popular as Phil Esterhaus, so he had big shoes to fill.

He came in as Stan Jablonski and pulled it off. Brilliant.

You're right. Now I remember who Prosky was. He was in a movie called Christine where he played, I believe, a cop. I know I have seen him in other parts, but that is the one I now remember.
