That would never happen if Shooter was in charge of the scheduling.andrewjackson wrote:In Indiana we always had high school basketball and all the other sports over Christmas Break. I was surprised when I moved to Michigan that they pretty much shut down sports for the break.
Of course, they also play varsity boys basketball on Tuesday night in Michigan. To a native Hoosier that was bizarre. Varsity basketball should be on Friday or Saturday night. Otherwise how could the 1,000s of people make it to the games?
Why would they schedule BBall games

I'm from Kentucky and it was a culture shock to move here and realize no one
goes to basketball games!! We got out of school in Louisville so we could attend the state
basketball tournaments.

That's how it is with football in Nebraska! I remember when my brother first moved out there and we went to visit for the first time. He lives in a town of like 800 but the high school team are perpetual champions of something or other. We hit town and there wasn't a soul to be seen. Because the entire town was off to wherever the football game was being played. They not only close the school, all the businesses shut down, too!kayrharris wrote:WheresFanny wrote:That would never happen if Shooter was in charge of the scheduling.andrewjackson wrote:In Indiana we always had high school basketball and all the other sports over Christmas Break. My high school gym in Indiana held about 4,000 people. It wasn't always full but it was most of the time. That was for a high school of about 1,000 students. I guess that just becomes what you think of as normal.SportsFan68 wrote:Well, if you're not planning on thousands of people . . .andrewjackson wrote:In Indiana we always had high school basketball and all the other sports over Christmas Break. There was a game here last night. I bet there were tens of people there!
More were at the holiday party down the street, I'm afraid (me too!).
No matter where you go, there you are.

My wife was a bit shocked to see how important high school football (and basketball to a lesser degree) is in a small town. She came from a high school in Kansas where her graduating class was well over 500 students, IIRC. When Tom Osborne himself came to recruit the Kelsay boys, well, you would have thought that Jesus Christ himself had chosen Auburn, NE as his place of return.
