RIP Sunny von Bulow

#1 Post by bazodee » Sat Dec 06, 2008 1:53 pm

NEW YORK – A family spokeswoman says heiress Martha "Sunny" von Bulow has died after almost three decades in a coma that prosecutors tried to blame on her husband. She was 76.
Spokeswoman Maureen Connelly says von Bulow died Saturday at a nursing home in New York City.
Von Bulow spent the past 28 years in a coma after what prosecutors alleged was two murder attempts by her husband, Claus.
He was ultimately acquitted of charges he tried to kill her by injecting her with insulin at their estate in Newport, R.I.
His trials were among the most sensational of the 1980s.

I am shocked she was just 76. She was in the news forever ago and my (obviously faulty) memory was that she was ancient when she fell into a coma. I'm also surprised that Claus is still living.

My grandmother was the housekeeper on an estate in Newport for many years.

All the hired help type people were absolutely convinced he did attempt to murder her. Many stories told about the two of them.

And I think the housekeeper types know all the real answers to these family secrets. Doesn't hold up in court, but prolly true.

At least she died doing what she loved.

Am I missing something, or are you saying she loved being in a coma for 28 years?

I'm being facetious. That and "goodnight, funnyman" over too way overused expressions when famous people die.

If she had appeared in a DoA game, I would have been wrong.

May she have peace.

Same here.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
