Speaking of unhealthy

#1 Post by ne1410s » Thu Dec 04, 2008 2:35 pm

Louisiana has "passed" Mississippi as the unhealthiest state in the Union.

Vermont, once again, is labeled the healthiest.

Rankings based on level of healthcare, obesity, infant mortality, cancer rates, and such.

We're thinnest again. :D

"Only" 1 in 5 of us is considered obese.

Colorado is ranked 35th in infant mortality. I thought we would be much higher because much of the population is uninsured or underinsured. OTOH, I'm probably drawing an incorrect inference there -- the uninsured or underinsured folks may be the older ones who are not having children.

Overall, we're #19:

Colorado's health continued to decline in 2008, falling three slots this year to No. 19, according to a report released Wednesday. By comparison, the state's health ranked ninth in 2003.

The report, issued by United Health Foundation, said Colorado's ranking was buoyed by its relatively low prevalence of obesity (19.3 percent), the lowest rate in the nation. On the downside, Colorado ranked poorly for prevalence of binge drinking (No. 37), the percentage without health insurance (No. 36) and immunization coverage (35).

That's just the tourists. :P
