RIP Jørn Utzon
The architect of the Sydney Opera House (and subject of Nancy's $500,000 question) passed away earlier today at age 90.

Re: RIP Jørn Utzon
He was amazing -- he won the Sydney Opera House design competition with such an amazing and beautiful design -- and one which could not be built! Even if they'd known that as drawn, it couldn't be built because the "waves" were too flat, I'm sure they still woulda picked it anyway and then modified it. I like the way it turned out better. As beautiful as it looks on photos and television, it's even more beautiful in person.

I saw a performance there and took a tour about two years ago. Utzon had a falling out with the Sydney people and never saw the completed result. However, in recent years, Utzon's son acted as an intermediary and Utzon was involved in some updates and renovations from afar.
