"Five Dollar Bills Are Not That Common"
According to Will Shortz on today's show. I'm beginning to think he lives in his own Puzzleworld and doesn't get out very often.

Or, he doesn't buy his own 'small items'.

I'm very quickly becoming disillusioned with him.

Re: "Five Dollar Bills Are Not That Common"
I became disillusioned with him about 15 years ago or whenever, about the time he showed up on NPR Sunday morning mispronouncing Yiddish words. Just because you know some of 15 possible phonetic spellings for something in someone else's language, & you're "into meanings" & your buddies gave you the meaning (but not the pronunciation, apparently) does not mean you get to use the word. At least not until you learn to pronounce it. Any of them.
Why am I not surprised he doesn't look at $5 bills?
And oh yeah I am singularly uninterested both in crossword puzzles & Sudoku, but I don't hold that against him.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Yes, are nappies a common occurrence? I often need a nappy....it's better than switching to decaf anyway...themanintheseersuckersuit wrote:Sounds like someone is new around hereclem21 wrote:Sounds like someone needs a nappy....

I have to agree with Clem. Or maybe we can blame the tutor.

"ones and twenties are a lot commoner [sic]"
It seems safe to say that Mr. Shortz has been a much weaker expert than one might expect, given his day job...

As I stated in another thread, I would have been initially happy to get some like Will Shortz as my ATE. After watching him at work for a few shows, I'm admitting that I've been proven wrong. He's gotten a couple of tough questions, but overall I'm not particularly impressed by him as an ATE.

I, too, have been disappointed in Mr. Shortz's ATE appearance, but it's important to remember that he edits the NYT puzzles, he doesn't create them himself.peacock2121 wrote:Sting was watching and said something about the guy being New York Times Crossword blah, blah, blah.slam wrote:As I stated in another thread, I would have been initially happy to get some like Will Shortz as my ATE. He's created them in his life. He still does, a few. Or at least that's what I remember hearing from interviews.I, too, have been disappointed in Mr. Shortz's ATE appearance, but it's important to remember that he edits the NYT puzzles, he doesn't create them himself.
